The following is a spoiler review of Marvel’s The Avengers, a Joss Whedon film. This review was written in early 2016.

Marvel’s The Avengers was and is a very special movie. For many this film was not unlike a religious experience. You finally saw that these mega-movie events were possible, and Marvel Studios had finally proven that their cinematic universe was built on solid ground, with a fantastically entertaining team at the center of it.

But there are some very noticeable problems with one of Marvel Studios’s very best films, and some of those problems really annoyed me when I rewatched it a third or fourth time. So, in this review I will be brutally honest, and therefore the review does include some spoilers. You have been warned.

REVIEW: Daredevil – Season Two (2016)

Daredevil Reviewed

The following is a review of the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, a Netflix Original Series. Expect spoilers from the first season, but spoilers for the second season will be kept at a minimum.

Saint Matthew is back! – I loved the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil. It was the perfect show for me, as it outweighed the light nature of other Marvel Studios content. Since then we’ve seen the excellent first season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and how Daredevil lost its showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, with the latter leaving me very worried about the future of the show. The second season of Marvel’s Daredevil is the first piece of Marvel produced entertainment brought to you by Netflix in 2016, and I am glad to say that the level of entertainment is as high as it has ever been.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Daredevil – Season Two (2016)”

Marvelous Monday #49 – Casting Cable

Marvelous Monday 2016

Marvelous Monday in 2016 posts once a month, on the second Monday of the month.

Oh what a Marvelous Monday. By now it’s common knowledge that Deadpool was a great film, and that they want to introduce Cable in the sequel. Now, I’ve already heard people mention their dream Cables, like Tom Hardy or Dolph Lundgren or whatever. Today I want to present three actors that I think would be cheap, safe, and solid options for 20th Century Fox to put in Deadpool 2 / Deadpool & Cable. REVIEW: Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool Poster
International Release Poster – 20th Century Fox

The following is a review of Deadpool, a 20th Century Fox film.

This movie has been in development for over a decade. The character was almost scrapped completely due to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The aforementioned Wolverine-movie drove Ryan Reynolds into the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, which wasn’t a great superhero film either. Then something crazy happened. In mid-2014 test footage for a proposed Deadpool-film was leaked online. The fan reaction was insane, and it forced 20th Century Fox’s hands. Suddenly, Deadpool was a reality. And you know what? Somehow the end result is absolutely fantastic. It was worth the wait. Continue reading “REVIEW: Deadpool (2016)”

REVIEW: Jessica Jones – Season One (2015)

Jessica Jones Season Review

The following is a season one review of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, a Netflix Original show.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is a Netflix Original show created by Melissa Rosenberg, of Twilight and Dexter-fame, which continues the Netflix adventure for the Disney owned Marvel Universe. Set in the same world as Marvel’s Daredevil and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jessica Jones continues our journey to The Defenders mini-series. And while Jones’ villain, Kilgrave, wasn’t as complex as Wilson Fisk was in Marvel’s Daredevil, Kilgrave was much scarier. Jessica Jones‘ debut season is just as great as Daredevil‘s first season was. Continue reading “REVIEW: Jessica Jones – Season One (2015)”
