Marvelous Monday #48 – Get Ready For Deadpool!

Marvelous Monday 2016

Marvelous Monday in 2016 posts once a month, on the second Monday of the month.

2016 is a pretty huge year for superhero fans, at least if you follow the films. WB/DC has Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March and Suicide Squad in August. Marvel Studios has Captain America: Civil War in May and Doctor Strange in November. But we mustn’t forget Fox who has a couple of their own superhero films – including the very first superhero film of 2016. Today is all about Deadpool!

The new film will shine a light on Fox‘s particular interpretation of Deadpool’s origin, and it is expected to finally bring us the true Deadpool that we’ve wanted for all this time. Now, if you’re fairly new to the superhero cinematic universes, then you may not know of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds, who stars as Deadpool in the new film, also played the character in the aforementioned film. However, the writers completely botched his introduction.

Now, I don’t like to write negatively about films, but I do if I have to as an amateur critic. While I really dislike X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you may want to watch the first half of it – until they decide to alter Wade Wilson. I haven’t seen the film in years, so tread lightly, but I would definitely argue that you should check out the following scene, and then you don’t have to watch anything else from the film.

Wade Wilson’s pretty cool, right? Now, after you skip the rest of the film, I wouldn’t argue against checking out some of the Ultimate Spider-Man Deadpool-clips out there. It’s animated, and it isn’t super violent, but you’ll get to know about the character. However, if you have more time on your hands, then I would consider reading the following three comic book stories instead:

  • New Mutants, Volume 1, Issue 98 – First appearance of the character.
  • Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe – Awesome Deadpool story.
  • Deadpool Kills Deadpool – The final part of the Deadpool killogy.

If you’ve done all of this, then I think you’re ready to love Deadpool – if the film is good, of course. Please be good (which early reviews say that it is!). Oh, and you should probably familiarize yourself with chimichangas!

Marvelous Monday will return on the 14th of March, 2016
