Oscar Chances for BLADE RUNNER 2049 – Special Features #6

BLADE RUNNER 2049 is one of my favorite movies of the year thus far. Unfortunately, while most critics love the film, general audiences aren’t excited to see it. The film’s opening weekend in North America was alarmingly low at just $32m, and, to the best of my knowledge, it isn’t doing all that well in the rest of the world either.

But what everyone seems to agree on is the fact that it deserves some awards recognition. Today I want to figure out what it deserves to win, and how likely it is that the film will win golden statues in early 2018. (more…)

Early Best Actress Predictions – Special Features #5

Same procedure as last week, folks! This week, I am taking a look at the Best Actress category at the forthcoming Oscars. Are Emma Stone, Kate Winslet, or the legend that is Meryl Streep getting another golden statue, or will someone new get to finally give a speech with an Oscar in-hand? (more…)

Early Best Actor Predictions – Special Features #4

A couple of weeks ago, I released my early predictions for Best Picture at the 90th Academy Awards. This week, I’m looking at another category. Last year, Casey Affleck won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Lee Chandler in Manchester by the Sea. But what about next year? Is it finally time for Gyllenhaal or Oldman, or will Hanks or Day-Lewis nab yet another win? (more…)

What’s Next For Indiana Jones? – Special Features #3

Indiana Jones. I always knew someday he’d return to the big screen. I never doubted that. Something made it inevitable. In March 2016, The Walt Disney Company announced that Steven Spielberg was going to direct an untitled fifth Indiana Jones film starring Harrison Ford.

The new film is going to be released in the summer of 2020, and it will therefore be released twelve years after Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystall Skull opened in theaters. Today, I want to talk about the future of yet another beloved franchise that Harrison Ford is returning to. (more…)

Valerian and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Summer? – Special Features #2

It was the best of summers, it was the worst of summers, it was the season of success, it was the season of flops, it was a summer of firings, it was the summer of reshoots. We had a lot to look forward to, yet we were alone in the theater. Tomatoes were ripe, but, for some, golden raspberries lay in waiting. In short, this summer was a lot of things. In this week’s Special Features, I’m giving you my thoughts on the summer movie season of 2017. (more…)

Early Best Picture Predictions – Special Features #1

On March 4th 2018, Jimmy Kimmel will host the Academy Awards for the second time in a row. Picture that. In six months, the 90th Academy Awards will have been held. Over the next couple of months, I will be keeping an eye on the Oscar race as I always do. Today, in the very first Special Features post, I will try to give you an idea of the current landscape in the Oscar race and tell you what films I believe will be nominated for Best Picture in early 2018. (more…)

Halfway Through the Year: Adjustments

Okay, so, we’re more than halfway through the year. It’s time to change and explain some things. As you may have noticed, Dagobah Day and Marvelous Monday haven’t been posted in a while, and, in some of my reviews, I’ve mentioned that I saw the film I’m reviewing ‘more than a month ago.’ (more…)
