Marvelous Monday #49 – Casting Cable

Marvelous Monday 2016

Marvelous Monday in 2016 posts once a month, on the second Monday of the month.

Oh what a Marvelous Monday. By now it’s common knowledge that Deadpool was a great film, and that they want to introduce Cable in the sequel. Now, I’ve already heard people mention their dream Cables, like Tom Hardy or Dolph Lundgren or whatever. Today I want to present three actors that I think would be cheap, safe, and solid options for 20th Century Fox to put in Deadpool 2 / Deadpool & Cable.

Before I’ll mention my three candidates for the role of Cable in the Deadpool sequel, I need to address the fact that Stephen Lang (of Avatar fame) has been campaigning for the role on Twitter. I don’t really think his campaign will result in anything, as such campaigns seldom do, but I’ll say that I think he would be a solid choice for Cable. Another popular choice is Ron Perlman, and that would be a great choice too.

Cable

Starting from left to right, meet Armie Hammer. Both of the Winklevoss-twins in The Social Network and the star of The Lone Ranger. Hammer has the right physique to play the character, and he still needs a mainstream breakout role. I’m not sure the age would fit completely, but I’m sure they could make that work.

Next up is Adam Baldwin, a TV Show darling from both Firefly and Chuck. I really like Baldwin a lot, but he obviously wouldn’t be the strongest pick based solely on fame. I still like him as an easy choice for the studio, though, and I’m certain he could bring something interesting to the character.

Last, but definitely not least, is Joe Manganiello. Manganiello is my personal favorite choice. He’s got the right height and physique to play the character, and he is a recognizable face, even though he isn’t the most well-known actor out there. A safe and strong pick for Cable, and I cannot think of a better choice than Manganiello in the long run.

Marvelous Monday will return next month.

I’m Jeffrey Rex
