Marvelous Monday #34 – Are We Getting An Ant-Man Sequel?

MarvelousMondayI'mJeffreyRex

Beware of spoilers from Ant-Man

A lot of things happened at Marvel Studios this last week. The Creative Committee was, according to some reports, disbanded, and Disney changed who Kevin Feige reports to. Ike Perlmutter no longer makes the decisions. Perlmutter has supposedly treated people poorly as a representative of Marvel, but we don’t know what this will mean in the long run. Therefore I chose to write about something else instead – are we getting an Ant-Man sequel?

Box Office Predictions – Weekend of August 28, 2015

Box Office Prediction

The following is a new weekly post on I’m Jeffrey Rex, wherein Jeffrey predicts the coming weekend numbers at the box office for North America.

Straight Outta Compton should get another easy box office win, thus getting its third weekend win in a row. The only notable new entries this weekend are No Escape and We Are Your Friends, and neither of those films look that great. Looks like another post-summer low box office weekend. Box Office 2015

The following is a new weekly post on I’m Jeffrey Rex, wherein Jeffrey predicts the coming weekend numbers at the box office for North America.

Summer is coming to an end, and with it comes the end of great summer films. Last weekend Straight Outta Compton had an incredibly strong first outing for a music biopic. Meanwhile, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. had a disastrous opening weekend. This weekend Straight Outta Compton should take home another win, but will The Man From U.N.C.L.E. even be in the top five? Marvelous Monday #31 – Phase Two Awards

Marvelous Monday, Standard

Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe consisted of six films: starting with Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, and ending with Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man. As of the 12th of August Marvel’s Phase Two has grossed $5,073,945,033 at the box office, and has been nominated for four Academy Awards. Meanwhile, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films (Saturn Awards) has nominated the Phase Two films for a total of 30 Saturn Awards (having won 7 so far).

However, we must note that Ant-Man is still making money for Marvel Studios, and that neither Ant-Man nor Avengers: Age of Ultron has had an opportunity to be nominated for an Academy Award or a Saturn Award. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #31 – Phase Two Awards”

Box Office Predictions – Weekend of August 7, 2015

Box Office 2015

The following is a new weekly post on I’m Jeffrey Rex, wherein Jeffrey predicts the coming weekend numbers at the box office for North America.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation flew into cinemas last weekend (with Tom Cruise on the side of an airplane, no less) and it went straight to the no. 1 spot. It was a huge win for Tom Cruise and the Mission-franchise, but this will be a tough weekend to win for Cruise. Why? Well, another Marvel Comics property releases this week – the controversial Fantastic Four. Continue reading “Box Office Predictions – Weekend of August 7, 2015”

Somehow Ant-Man kept the number one spot last weekend, but that will probably be the last weekend win for Marvel’s Ant-Man. This week the Marvel superhero will battle two famous franchises. Surely, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation & Vacation will take down Ant-Man. Continue reading “Box Office Predictions – Weekend of July 31, 2015”

REVIEW: Ant-Man (2015)

Marvel Studios and Walt Disney Studios’ poster for Ant-Man (2015).

The following is a spoiler-free review of Marvel’s Ant-Man (2015).

We’ve reached the final film of Marvel Studios‘ Phase Two – Ant-Man is here. If this sounds like Marvel has gone for one of the most obscure comic books they’ve ever done, then you’re not entirely wrong. The general public wouldn’t be that familiar with the character, but he is not unimportant – his film is much more than a stopgap between Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Captain America 3 – in fact, this origin story is a breath of fresh air for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
