REVIEW: Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

ID4-2 Poster
Theatrical Release Poster – 20th Century Fox

The following is a review of Independence Day: Resurgence, a Roland Emmerich film.

It’s been twenty years since the release of the original Independence Day. That film from 1996 is a nice, fun little popcorn film. I have a lot of fun with it, even if it isn’t considered a ‘great film’. That said, I was really pessimistic when I sat down in the theater to watch the sequel, Resurgence. I had heard that Will Smith wasn’t in the sequel, and that Mae Whitman had been replaced by Maika Monroe. I was worried, but I wanted to like the film. Now I’ve seen it, and it’s even worse than I had feared.

This is going to be a tough post for me to write. I had planned for this month’s Favorite Thespian to be Jared Leto, I had even written the entire post in preparation for today. But then something happened. Last night, one of my favorite thespians passed away. I was a big fan of Anton Yelchin, and when I heard that he had died I was in shock. I sat in silence for ten minutes or so. And when someone asked me what was wrong, tears started to rush down my face. I will miss Yelchin. So this month’s Favorite Thespians is in memory of him. Is Brie Larson Our Captain Marvel? – Marvelous Monday #52

Marvelous Monday Outline

I am, by no means, a big fan of the Captain Marvel character, but I appreciate the love a lot of fans have for her. Still, this character means more to me as a result of this blog. The very first Marvelous Monday, way back in January of 2015, was about who could play Captain Marvel. I wrote about Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt, and Yvonne Strahovski. Now, we’re hearing that Brie Larson, star of Room, is in talks to star as Carol Danvers. Why is Marvel going for Larson, and why are we hearing this now?
