The Collection #1 – Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

The Collection - Star Wars

  • Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) – Directed by George Lucas.
  • Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) – Directed by Irvin Kershner.
  • Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi (1983) – Directed by Richard Marquand.

The Collection is a monthly opinion piece, which features a single film, trilogy, or the like that I consider to be one of the best of all-time – a must watch film or franchise. A new entry in The Collection will be highlighted and revealed on the third Monday of every month. This month I’m starting The Collection with the original Star Wars trilogy, arguably the best trilogy of all-time. REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Theatrical Poster – The Force Awakens

The following is a spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams.

Set three decades after Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows the scavenging Rey (played by Daisy Ridley); the best pilot in the Resistance, Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac); and a troubled stormtrooper, Finn (played by John Boyega), as they are suddenly thrown into a galaxy-wide search for someone or something… That is all I’ll say about the general plot of the film, which does feature the original three characters that we know and love. Star Wars is back! Continue reading “REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”

CLASSIC REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)

Theatrical Release Poster – Art by Kazuhiko Sano

The following is a classic review of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, a Richard Marquand film. Expect spoilers.

1983 – Return of the Jedi – the end of the original trilogy. While Empire Strikes Back is definitely the best film, Return of the Jedi was my favorite film when I was younger. And there is a simple reason why this film, though not the best of the three, is remembered so fondly by so many people. Return of the Jedi is the most satisfying Star Wars film. CLASSIC REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

Theatrical Release Poster – By Roger Kastel

The following is a classic review of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, a Irvin Kershner film. Expect spoilers.

The space opera fairytale that is Star Wars continued in May 1980. What met audiences was a very different film, which did not continue with the same mood that Lucas had ended A New Hope on. In many ways, The Empire Strikes Back is a completely different film than A New Hope, and, quite frankly, it is the film that made Star Wars a franchise. The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6

This might be my favorite trailer of the year. While it didn’t have the incredible “Chewie, we’re home” moment, it did make me tear up – while not really revealing anything about the story. A masterful trailer. Let’s now look at the most important shots in the trailer! Continue reading “The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6”

CLASSIC REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977)

Star_Wars_logo

You’ve heard of Star Wars, right? Good. Now, while Star Wars today is this gigantic franchise with its own convention, a library-size canon, and a toy line-up unlike any other, it all started with George Lucas writing and pitching Star Wars to United Artist and Universal Pictures with them both declining to produce, distribute, and make the film with Lucas.

Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Dagobah Day

It feels like it was only last week that Disney acquired LucasFilm. But that was, in fact, way back in 2012. Time flies. The Force Awakens is only a few months away from opening in theaters worldwide. Now, before we get too many teasers, trailers, and toy leaks, I thought that I would give my predictions for Episode VII. Continue reading “Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5”

Han Solo is getting a solo film – Dagobah Day #3

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Dagobah Day

Welcome back to Dagobah!

Dagobah Day is a recurring opinion piece / news post on all things Star Wars. This time on Dagobah, I go over the details of the Anthology Film that was just announced a couple of days ago (July 7th 2015), and the actors that could play a ‘young’ Han Solo. Also, I wonder, what do they mean by ‘young’? Continue reading “Han Solo is getting a solo film – Dagobah Day #3”
