NFL Mock Draft 2015

mock draft

Hey there!

I haven’t been blogging about sports or the NFL for a few months, and I might not ever blog about it to the extent I did in 2014 again.

As we head into the Draft, however, I feel that I need to release my 1st Round mock draft – and give you my thoughts on who I want in Chicago. Here are my three favorite players in this year’s Draft: Marcus Mariota, Landon Collins, and Danny Shelton.

REVIEW: Fast & Furious 7 (2015)

Universal Pictures poster for Fast & Furious 7

There really is no better mix of testosterone, speed, and thrill than the Fast & Furious films. I remember how much I enjoyed the first one a long time ago, I remember how Paul Walker won me over time and time again in its sequels.

To me Paul Walker has been the soul of the franchise, so I was worried about this seventh installment considering the fact that Walker passed away in 2013. Would it be the same knowing what happened to him in real life, or would real life events cloud and tarnish the potential of the most expensive Fast-film to date? Marvelous Monday #10 – Behold… The Vision

Marvelous Monday 10
Expect some comic book spoilers that will most likely also be spoilers for Age of Ultron.

Do you want to know what I am most excited about in Avengers: Age of Ultron? It’s simple really. One of the coolest, perhaps overpowered, Marvel characters is The Vision.

While Ultron may be the title villain, the Vision will be a big character in this film – if done right – and I expect a lot of Marvel fanboys to be overjoyed to finally see him. This is the character that once made the Wasp cry that he was an: “unearthly, inhuman vision” Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #10 – Behold… The Vision”

REVIEW: Better Call Saul – “Five-O”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Better Call Saul - Five-O
The following is a review of the sixth episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, which premiered in Europe on Netflix this morning. Expect spoilers from the episode, as well as minor spoilers from Breaking Bad.

Way back in late May 2009, we were first introduced to the character Mike Ehrmantraut – little did we know that today he’d be a fan-favorite character. Way back in 2009 he was somewhat mysterious, and he was so for most of his time on Breaking Bad. His dream of getting his granddaughter money was never truly fulfilled, due to the DEA, Walt, and just terrible luck in the final seasons.

When this show was announced, and he was announced in it, it excited me. We had heard stories about Mike, but Jonathan Banks’ character had been somewhat of a closed-book on the show – only ever showing sincere, heartfelt emotions around Jesse and his granddaughter. Finding out that this episode was about Mike left me intrigued. How did it turn out? Well, let’s take a look. Continue reading “REVIEW: Better Call Saul – “Five-O””

Marvelous Monday #8 – The Illuminati

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday #8
So yeah – weird title if you don’t read Marvel Comics. What I want to write about today is the idea of The Illuminati-group in the Marvel Comics Universe. Minor spoilers for the current New Avengers run may appear, but absolutely no spoilers post-Original Sin crossover. Also, I probably need to explain why we probably won’t ever see them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (even though Phase 3 would be perfect for its inception). REVIEW: Better Call Saul – Alpine Shepherd Boy

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Better Call Saul - Alpine Shepherd Boy
The following is a review of the fifth episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, which premiered in Europe on Netflix this morning.

Don’t you just feel bad for Chuck? I mean that opening… While his neighbor didn’t exactly sell him the paper, it sucked that she actually called the cops on someone leaving five dollars as payment. Considering the lengths he went to to get the paper, it sucks that he had to go through that rough ordeal with the cops. His brother’s doing somewhat better though, as is to be expected from last week’s episode.

I want to secede from the United States – Well, okay then. Jimmy sure is getting more clients, and our guy’s not exactly the kind of lawyer that says no to anything upfront, not then and there. But that retaining fee? That’s sure to make anyone cut and run. As for the suggestive talking toilet? Yeah. Don’t go there Jimmy. The drafting of the will, however, yeah that’s much better – though not exactly my speed, watch the episode and you’ll understand what I mean. Marvelous Monday #7 – Will The Superhero Bubble Burst?

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday #7For the uninitiated: This is a new weekly feature on the blog wherein I, I’m Jeffrey Rex, discuss all things Marvel. Now that I’ve reached six posts on this feature, this will be the only introduction to the feature.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Superhero-Hype that is. Be prepared for somewhat of a darker post this week – it is truly grim at times.

Now, I’m not going to kick off this post by spelling doom for my fellow nerds and geeks out there, but the laymen have caught onto us. They figured out just how well it’s working, and soon people will realize how Marvel, Sony, Fox and Warner Bros. have no reason to stop pitching new ideas – they have no reason to stop creating, filming, writing new superhero films.

Sure, I’m preaching to the choir – you know how many films are coming out. And so far it hasn’t really been a problem – but do you know why? Because we’ve only had two problematic years for comic book movies. In 2013 no mainstream superhero movie was loved by all comic book readers. I liked Iron Man 3, but I’m in the minority – Man of Steel wasn’t a success and Thor: The Dark World was… Well it was Thor: The Dark World. A dark twist on a universe that was so well painted in the Branagh-Thor. Wait, I’m in the minority on that one, too? Yikes. But I digress. 2014 was extremely successful. Guardians of the Galaxy was the biggest hit of the summer, some say the year, Days of Future Past was well-liked – and critics loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But in 2015 and beyond, too many of our nerd dreams are coming true.

In 2015 we are seeing new iterations of Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Terminator, Avengers, Fantastic Four – heck, even Ant-Man‘s getting a film. But, sadly, this is killing the mainstream audience – we’re testing their patience. 11 beloved nerd-films are to be released in 2016 – a year that may finally burst the superhero bubble. But here are my questions – can it be avoided? Will it kill the entire genre? And which films will be the ones we’ll forever blame for this?

REVIEW: House of Cards – Season Three

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - House of Cards - Season 3The following is a review of the entire third season of House of Cards. Obviously there will be spoilers.

Unless you’ve been under a rock since Thursday, you should be aware of the fact that season three of House of Cards is out on Netflix – go watch it if you haven’t. Now. Since its release I’ve been working hard to review every single episode of the season, and I am thankful that I finished it in the opening weekend. They function both as recaps and reviews – so if you forgot something then feel free to make good use of it.

Today I decided to release a full post on season three of House of Cards. Now if you’ve been following my episode reviews, then you already know that I mentioned some overall thoughts at the end of Chapter 39, but I thought I had more to say today.

So, first things first – did I like the season? Yes, I really did. I think a lot of the people that are disappointed expected the second coming of Heisenberg this season. But in many ways this season was always going to be about the illusion of the Presidency – the illusion of power. And what it means to be Commander in Chief.
