On Friday, April 10th 2015, Netflix releases the first of four superhero shows preceding a The Defenders mini series. Marvel’s Man Without Fear is the first Defender to get his own show. Starring in Daredevil is Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and Rosario Dawson.
This week’s post is sort of a preview for the new Netflix show – listing 5 reasons why we should be excited for Marvel’s Daredevil.
#1 – It’s Marvel, not Fox
The infamous Ben Affleck Daredevil-film was actually a 20th Century Fox production. Now the rights are finally back with Marvel, and they are ready to build the world Matt Murdock deserves. This isn’t a knock at Fox per se, I’m just pointing out that you cannot really expect the same adaptation.
#2 – Supposedly Violent
Daredevil needs to be violent, and that’s not necessarily what you attribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thankfully, I’m hearing that they are actually going really gritty with it – giving us the Daredevil we need… And deserve at this point.
#3 – Connected to the MCU
One of the things I dislike about the DC TV shows is that they aren’t connected to the films at all. We’ll have a Flash on TV, and a different Flash on the big screen. Thankfully, Marvel has decided to keep it all connected. Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, and the Netflix shows are part of the same universe. The MCU will be bigger than ever.
#4 – You Can Bingewatch It
#5 – A Good Antagonist
The biggest criticism Marvel movies get is that their villains aren’t good enough. In Daredevil, we’ve been told to expect a full antagonist. A multilayered antagonist is exactly what we need from one of the most iconic comic book villains of all-time.
I’m excited for Daredevil.
