It’s time for the second – and final – half of the nominations for the 2016 IJR Awards. This time it’s all about movies and documentaries. I’ll announce the winners of all categories on February 20th, before announcing my top ten films of 2016 on February 22nd.
Before I get to the award nominations, let me just refresh your memory on the eligibility rules of some of the awards, mainly the poster and trailer awards. Only posters for films that were released in 2016 are eligible for the poster award. However, a 2017 film’s trailer is eligible for the trailer award if that trailer was released in 2016.
Also – and I realize I haven’t been outspoken about this previously – a documentary film cannot be nominated for the Best Film award. The reason for that is simple, I added the documentary award this year to recognize those films. Now, if you want to see whether I think the best documentaries are better than the best films, then I suggest you take a look at my upcoming top ten films of 2016 list.
