REVIEW: Iron Man 3 (2013)

Theatrical Release Poster – Marvel Studios – Disney

The following is a review of Iron Man 3, a Shane Black film. This review was written in early 2016.

Iron Man 3 might be the most controversial film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Most comic book fans aren’t all that pleased with the film, to say the least, but most critics enjoyed the experience. I wouldn’t really say that any crowd really loves the film, though. Now, why is that? Well, let’s just say that the marketing hurt the film, and the vision of the script wasn’t what fans were expecting.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Iron Man 3 (2013)”

RETRO REVIEW: Iron Man 2 (2010)

Theatrical Release Poster – Marvel Studios – Paramount Pictures

The following is a retro review of Iron Man 2, a Jon Favreau film.

Jon Favreau returned to the Iron Man-franchise, with a sequel to the critically acclaimed original film from 2008. Marvel Studios was desperate to build the universe, and chose to start building their new empire within the sequel to Iron Man. But while easter eggs can be promising and exciting, studio-mandated easter eggs can ruin a film if they dictate too much of the plot.  Continue reading “RETRO REVIEW: Iron Man 2 (2010)”

RETRO REVIEW: Iron Man (2008)

Theatrical Release Poster – Marvel Studios – Paramount Pictures

The following is a retro review of Iron Man, a Jon Favreau film.

Jon Favreau’s Iron Man successfully kickstarted the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. Few had expected that the film would be great – and nobody saw the greatness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe coming. Iron Man is one of the most groundbreaking superhero films of all-time, and is still one of the best in that genre.  Continue reading “RETRO REVIEW: Iron Man (2008)”

Yesterday, Marvel Studios released the second full length trailer for Captain America: Civil War, which begins the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the very end we got a nice surprise, but there was so much more to the trailer. So, watch the trailer – and come back to discuss the trailer with me! Marvelous Monday #46 – First Trailer Review: Captain America – Civil War

Last week on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans revealed the new poster and trailer for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, which, essentially, is Avengers 2.5 centered around two friendships and the Sokovia Accord. Let’s take a look at some of the greatest shots from the new trailer! Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #46 – First Trailer Review: Captain America – Civil War”

REVIEW: Avengers – Age of Ultron (2015)

Marvel Studios poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron

The following is a spoiler free review of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The original review was more positive, but I still like the film.

Marvel’s The Avengers is one of the biggest films for comic book nerds across the globe. But with the incredibly successful first Avengers outing in mind, could Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige surprise and wow us again? Well, yes and no. Whedon makes some superhero movie-sins, but does give us visual spectacle.

Marvelous Monday #14 – Questions For ‘Age of Ultron’

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday - 14
On Wednesday, the 22nd of April, I’ll be seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron in Taastrup, Denmark, and I cannot wait. So for this week’s Marvelous Monday I’ve chosen to highlight the questions I have about this film going in. Think of it as some sort of preview.

Marvelous Monday #10 – Behold… The Vision

Marvelous Monday 10
Expect some comic book spoilers that will most likely also be spoilers for Age of Ultron.

Do you want to know what I am most excited about in Avengers: Age of Ultron? It’s simple really. One of the coolest, perhaps overpowered, Marvel characters is The Vision.

While Ultron may be the title villain, the Vision will be a big character in this film – if done right – and I expect a lot of Marvel fanboys to be overjoyed to finally see him. This is the character that once made the Wasp cry that he was an: “unearthly, inhuman vision” Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #10 – Behold… The Vision”

Marvelous Monday #8 – The Illuminati

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday #8
So yeah – weird title if you don’t read Marvel Comics. What I want to write about today is the idea of The Illuminati-group in the Marvel Comics Universe. Minor spoilers for the current New Avengers run may appear, but absolutely no spoilers post-Original Sin crossover. Also, I probably need to explain why we probably won’t ever see them in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (even though Phase 3 would be perfect for its inception).
