This week’s Marvelous Monday focuses on the potential of the newest Marvel Comics-based superhero flick coming this summer. Fantastic Four is the last superhero film of 2015. But this isn’t a Marvel Studios film. No, this is one of Fox’s attempts at a stronger superhero universe. The film has had a lot of problems in the press: rumors and comments about the script, Dr. Doom, and the director have stopped the hype-train somewhat. So, today we need to make up our minds: What are the dos and don’ts for the returning Mister Fantastic-led franchise? Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #29 – Dos and Don’ts for Fox’s Fantastic Four”

Marvelous Monday #28 – 2016 is a problem

Superhero films are extremely popular right now. We are, indeed, in the golden age of comic book films – but it won’t last forever. The last few years have been pretty good for comic book movies – 2012 was a successful year for The Avengers – 2013 was a successful year for Iron Man 3 – 2014 produced three great superhero films – and 2015 is actually a light year for superhero films, seeing as there are only three films total this year. But here’s the thing, there are too many superhero films next year… 2016 is a problem. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #28 – 2016 is a problem”
Marvelous Monday #27 – Ant-Man Box Office Talk
Get it? Yeah that was a bad font-pun. Anyway, on this week’s Marvelous Monday I try to predict the full box office total of Ant-Man. What would be a success? What would be terrible? Let’s look at the numbers from the opening weekend in North America and the Marvel Cinematic Universe numbers. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #27 – Ant-Man Box Office Talk”
Marvelous Monday #26 – X-Men and the Fox Ownership
This week’s topic is based on some rumors I heard last week. That perhaps Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox could make a deal after Marvel’s Phase Three. This could perhaps lead to an Avengers vs. X-Men storyline, and could give us the Illuminati storyline that Hickman focused on in his New Avengers run (2013-2015). But here’s the thing, I don’t really want that to happen. Here’s why. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #26 – X-Men and the Fox Ownership”
Marvelous Monday #25 – Recast The Avengers
In May 2012 Marvel Studios released Marvel’s The Avengers in theaters. It would go on to become one of the best ever comic book movies. Along the way it made $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office, and would spawn numerous other cinematic universes for other comic book characters at other studios.
You could argue, however, that a comic book movie is only as good as its leading men and women. But what if Marvel Studios never cast Downey Jr., Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Johansson, Evans, and Renner? Today, on Marvelous Monday, I try to recast the heroes in The Avengers from a pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe perspective. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #25 – Recast The Avengers”
Marvelous Monday #24 – I’m Jeffrey Rex Recommends
We’re about to start July, and thus everyone will be needing some reading material (unless you’re not into that kind of thing), so this week’s post is all about comic books! Obviously it’ll only cover Marvel Comics, so if you’re a DC guy or gal – just follow the Bat-family. Nevertheless, I’ve got 3 comic book series that I’ve enjoyed or am enjoying from Marvel Comics, which I am recommending today. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #24 – I’m Jeffrey Rex Recommends”
Marvelous Monday #23 – Howard The Duck
On August 1st 1986 – almost 29 years ago – Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and Universal Pictures released the critically panned sci-fi comedy comic book movie Howard The Duck. On today’s Marvelous Monday, I look into the character everyone loved in the Guardians of the Galaxy post-credits scene. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #23 – Howard The Duck”
Marvelous Monday #22 – Guardians of the Galaxy Was Special To Me
Spoiler Warning For: Guardians of the Galaxy
Real talk. Today’s post is really important. Today’s post is really personal. Today I am going to write about how Guardians of the Galaxy was a very special movie to me, and to my family – I am going to explain how it helped us out. I don’t just love that hero-squad because they got me back into comics. The film also helped me heal after the loss of a loved one. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #22 – Guardians of the Galaxy Was Special To Me”
Marvelous Monday #21 – What Should Be On ‘Awesome Mix Vol. 2’?
Okay, so I was gonna put a spoiler warning here – but you’ve all seen Guardians of the Galaxy. RIGHT!?
Guardians of the Galaxy was the best mainstream film of last year, and was surprisingly fairly seperate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other than Rocket and Groot, the soundtrack was the breakout star of the film – and for some (me) it’s the very best movie soundtrack of all-time. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #21 – What Should Be On ‘Awesome Mix Vol. 2’?”
Marvelous Monday #20 – 15 Best Moments In The MCU So Far
This week I want to write about how great the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been, but in doing so I want to point out what scenes, events, or lines are the very best in the MCU (in my opinion, of course).
Do note that I will probably spoil every MCU film, including Age of Ultron. Ready? Come take a look my top 15 list!
