The following is a review of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther — Directed by Ryan Coogler.
We’ve seen plenty of superhero films before. We’ve seen superhero films with social commentary before. We’ve had people of color as the leads of comic book films before — you need only look at the forgotten Blade-trilogy, which definitely deserves a rewatch, to figure that out. The following is a review of Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 – Directed by James Gunn
The first Guardians of the Galaxy film was very special to me. It arrived at the right time for me and family. My Godmother had just passed away, and Guardians of the Galaxy was the first film we saw as a family since she had passed away. Guardians of the Galaxy made me laugh, it made me cry, and I, to this day, still think of it as one of my favorite films of all-time. It had a huge effect on me.
I, however, never expected Volume 2 to have as big an impact on me as James Gunn’s first Marvel film had and, honestly, it didn’t. But while Volume 2 isn’t as good as the original film, I still really loved it and it did make me emotional more than once. Continue reading “REVIEW: Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 (2017)”→
Thor: Ragnarok is one of the most intriguing superhero films this year. It’s being directed by Taika Waititi, who is primarily known for What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The two previous Thor films were directed by, first, a fantastic Shakespearian actor-director and, then, a TV director most known for his work on Game of Thrones and The Sopranos. Based on this trailer, Waititi’s version may not take itself as seriously as one might’ve feared. Continue reading “TRAILER RECAP: Thor: Ragnarok – Teaser Trailer”→
It has been a lot of fun being a big fan of Marvel’s favorite wall-crawler since Marvel Studios and Sony agreed to ‘bring Marvel into the amazing world of Spider-Man’ back in February 2015. Since then we’ve seen this new version of Peter Parker appear in Captain America: Civil War where he stole Steve Rogers’ shield for a minute, and that was probably one of the best on-screen moments ever for the character.
But they say that all good things come to an end, and during these last few days Spider-Man’s future involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been called into question. Continue reading “How Long Will Spider-Man Be in the MCU?”→
2016 is almost over, and I really can’t believe it. It feels like the summer movie season just ended, but here we are at the end of the year. That also means that we need to start looking forward to some of the films that are released next year. I, obviously, don’t know if any or all of these will be good, or even great, but with this list I’m trying to point out which films I’m super excited for. Continue reading “My 17 Most Anticipated Films of 2017”→
Back in October, we got our first look at Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and now we’ve gotten our first real teaser trailer. This one is filled with great shots of the endlessly entertaining Baby Groot, and we also get our first look at Mantis! The following is a review of Doctor Strange. The reviewed film was seen in IMAX 3D.
At this point, people expect a lot from Marvel Studios. Doctor Strange is the fourteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most of these films have been pretty well-received. Still, Doctor Strange is a bit of a risk, seeing as it is introducing magic and beings from other dimensions to the universe.
While Doctor Strange has to introduce its own corner of the universe with just this film, Marvel Studios has been releasing these films in a smart way. Marvel Studios has, essentially, been preparing moviegoers for this kind of film with Thor, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Continue reading “REVIEW: Doctor Strange (2016)”→
I love the Oscars. Sure, there’s almost always controversy. Sure, the Academy doesn’t always recognize my favorite films, but it’s always entertaining. To me, at the very least. But I just realized something. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the top of pretty much every Hollywood actor’s wish list, somehow the franchise has never won an Oscar.
I am, by no means, a big fan of the Captain Marvel character, but I appreciate the love a lot of fans have for her. Still, this character means more to me as a result of this blog. The very first Marvelous Monday, way back in January of 2015, was about who could play Captain Marvel. I wrote about Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt, and Yvonne Strahovski. Now, we’re hearing that Brie Larson, star of Room, is in talks to star as Carol Danvers. Why is Marvel going for Larson, and why are we hearing this now? So, by now, you’ve all had a chance to see Captain America: Civil War. This gives me a chance to fully dive into spoilers in this post, so if you decided not to watch the film yet, you should probably check it out before reading this post. Today I ask myself if the Captain America-trilogy, which I call the The Man Out of Time-trilogy, is the best superhero trilogy of all-time.
