Thor: Ragnarok is one of the most intriguing superhero films this year. It’s being directed by Taika Waititi, who is primarily known for What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. The two previous Thor films were directed by, first, a fantastic Shakespearian actor-director and, then, a TV director most known for his work on Game of Thrones and The Sopranos. Based on this trailer, Waititi’s version may not take itself as seriously as one might’ve feared.
THOR ODINSON (Chris Hemsworth): Now, I know what you’re thinking. How did this happen? Well, it’s a long story.
So, this looks pretty bad for our buddy, Thor. A shot seen later in the trailer also sees someone else falling to a place or planet, but it doesn’t look like the same place.
Here we have Hela (played by Cate Blanchett) who, seemingly, destroys Mjölnir. I love her look.
To be honest with you, this just looks like Thor has been exiled to Neil Blomkamp’s District 9.
GRANDMASTER ( Jeff Goldblum): What have you brought today? Tell me.
VALKYRIE (Tessa Thompson): A contender.
GRANDMASTER (Goldblum): It’s main event-time. And now, I give you, your incredible…
I just love how wacky and colorful Goldblum looks in these shots. I also find it very interesting that Loki and the Grandmaster are watching over the battle arena together.
THOR ODINSON (Chris Hemsworth): YES! We know each other. He’s a friend from work. Oh come on.
This is my – and everyone’s – favorite moment in the trailer. Thor just looks so relieved and happy to see his old friend. I wonder how much we’ll actually get to see Mark Ruffalo, though.
This fight has been teased since Marvel’s The Avengers. I can’t wait to see them really fight again. Also, it’s going to be really tough for our blonde protagonist now that he doesn’t have his trusted hammer by his side.
I loved Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, but I was extremely disappointed with Alan Taylor’s sequel. Ragnarok is Taika Waititi’s attempt at a Thor sequel and it looks both humorous and epic. I can’t wait to see it. Although I like most of the trailers for Justice League, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man: Homecoming, this first Thor: Ragnarok teaser trailer is leaps and bounds ahead of the pack. It looks fantastic.
Also, as a sidenote, I can’t think of a more appropriate song to play during the teaser trailer for Ragnarok than Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’. Perfect.
What do you think of the trailer? Sound off in the comments.
