Back in October, we got our first look at Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and now we’ve gotten our first real teaser trailer. This one is filled with great shots of the endlessly entertaining Baby Groot, and we also get our first look at Mantis!
Oh what a wonderful teaser trailer! Whereas the sneak peek made use of Hooked on a Feeling again, this teaser makes use of a classic song that wasn’t on Awesome Mix, Vol. 1. In this trailer, we hear ‘Fox on the Run’ by the British glam rock band The Sweet.
Here are the lines from the teaser trailer:
ROCKET: “The fate of the universe lies on your shoulders. Now, whatever you do, don’t push this button. Because that will set off the bomb immediately and we’ll all be dead. Now, repeat back what I just said.”
BABY GROOT: “I am Groot.”
ROCKET: “No! No, that’s the button that will kill everyone. Try again.”
BABY GROOT: “I am Groot, I am Groot, I am Groot.”
ROCKET: “No!!”
STAR-LORD: “Showtime, A-holes!”
DRAX: “Screw you, spaceship!”
ROCKET: “Does anybody have any tape out there? I wanna put some tape over the death-button.”
STAR-LORD: “Nobody has any tape.”
ROCKET: “Not a single person has tape?”
STAR-LORD: “You have an atomic bomb in your bag, if anyone’s gonna have tape it’s you.”
ROCKET: “I have to do everything!”
STAR-LORD: “You are wasting a lot of time!”
BABY GROOT: “I AM GROOT!”
ROCKET: “That’s a really bad sign.”
MANTIS: “If I touch someone, I can feel their feelings. You feel love!”
STAR-LORD: “Yeah, I guess, yeah, I feel a general unselfish love for just about everbody.”
MANTIS: “No! Sexual love.”
STAR-LORD: “No, no I don’t.”
MANTIS: “For her!”
STAR-LORD: “No!”
DRAX (Laughing): “She just told everyone your deepest, darkest secret.”
STAR-LORD: “Dude, come on, I think you’re overreacting a little bit.”
DRAX (Still laughing): “You must be so embarrassed! Do me, do me!”
I love the clip of Rocket trying to get Baby Groot to understand what he absolutely mustn’t do. But let’s now move on to the visuals. We’ve got Baby Groot stills to look at!
Here Drax takes a closer look at a creature, which I believe director James Gunn called the ‘Abelisk’ or ‘Abilisk’ at some point. Maybe someone else confirmed that name, I’m not quite sure. In any case, that’s one scary beast with a lot of teeth.
And here you have him, ladies and gentlemen: Baby Groot. He’s just so adorable. So incredibly cute.
I really dug this. This special Marvel Studios logo effect is perfect for the Guardians of the Galaxy feel that Gunn has been going for.
Just because our little Baby Groot is adorable, he can still be angry and powerful.
And then, what might be, my favorite shot in the trailer: Baby Groot running away with the device, while screaming: “I AM GROOT!” Baby Groot is the best.
And hey, we get our first look at Mantis! I really like her look, and I love this little scene. Just like the sneak peek did, this scene showcases the special relationship Peter Quill and Drax have.
I loved this trailer. If you look at trailers as bite-sized pieces of art or entertainment, then this has to be one of the best we’ve seen in a while. It is so much fun to watch, and it leaves you wanting more. We don’t get any real information about the story, we just get two great scenes – some great shots of our favorite guardians.
A truly fantastic teaser trailer. Easily, the most entertaining comic book movie trailer this year. One of my favorite trailers of the year.
