REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017)

Theatrical Release Poster – Disney / Lucasfilm

The following is my review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Directed by Rian Johnson.

There is nothing like Star Wars. The Star Wars saga includes the biggest films of all-time, the most influential films of all-time, and one of the most rabid and passionate fandoms in popular culture. There is an innumerable amount of lore about the galaxy far, far away, and the philosophy of Jediism was once recorded as a religion. Star Wars, as author Chris Taylor wrote, conquered the universe, and its influences can be felt throughout popular culture.  (more…)

‘Star Wars Celebration 2017: Day One’ Reaction – Dagobah Day #31

Like millions of others around the world, my Star Wars Celebration 2017 is spent at home. I spent the entire day watching the official Star Wars live stream, and while we don’t always get to see everything, I thought that what we got here was absolutely terrific.

Now, in this little reaction post, I’ll be discussing some of the news that got out of day one of Star Wars Celebration 2017, as well as some of the panels that I was able to see — starting with the 40 Years of Star Wars-panel! (more…)

Top 10 Best Moments in The Force Awakens – Dagobah Day #29

best-moments-tfa

Last year, I made two lists about the two first Star Wars trilogies. The list for the Prequel Trilogy was rather difficult to put together, while the list for the Original Trilogy was much more fun to do. I’ve previously promised to return to The Force Awakens (which I’ve seen 14 or 15 times by now) and, finally, make a ‘Top 10 Best Moments in The Force Awakens‘ list. Today I’m finally ready to reveal the list. Let’s get to it. (more…)

Goodbye 2016

2016-year-in-review

I used to write these New Year’s Speeches every year, and I really enjoyed doing so. I sort of stopped doing it last year, but I’ve tried to find a way to comment on all of the things that happened this year. I came up with this post, in which I want to talk about the entire year briefly. Film, television, and politics. Good and bad. Hope and dread. So if you don’t want anything political with your movie news, speculation, or discussion, then this isn’t the post for you. (more…)

Farewell, Princess – Dagobah Day #25

Lucasfilm/Disney

Lucasfilm/Disney

When I saw Rogue One, I expected that it would be the subject of the twenty-fifth Dagobah Day. Then, a couple of days ago, Carrie Fisher suffered a heart attack during a flight. I had hoped and prayed that she would survive it, but I’ve just learned that our Princess has passed away.  (more…)

We Need To Talk About Kylo – Dagobah Day #10

Dagobah Day - 2016

Attention: the following post contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

I’ve spoken to numerous people about the newest villains in the Star Wars saga, and what has become abundantly clear is that I don’t see eye to eye with a lot of the people criticizing the character of Kylo Ren. I’ve found myself defending his character, his development, his design, and the like on multiple occasions. I’m getting really tired of seeing people misinterpreting the greatness of Kylo Ren, so this month’s Dagobah Day is all about Kylo! (more…)

The Collection #1 – Star Wars: The Original Trilogy

The Collection - Star Wars

  • Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) – Directed by George Lucas.
  • Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) – Directed by Irvin Kershner.
  • Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi (1983) – Directed by Richard Marquand.

The Collection is a monthly opinion piece, which features a single film, trilogy, or the like that I consider to be one of the best of all-time – a must watch film or franchise. A new entry in The Collection will be highlighted and revealed on the third Monday of every month. This month I’m starting The Collection with the original Star Wars trilogy, arguably the best trilogy of all-time.
