REVIEW: Daredevil – Season Two (2016)

The following is a review of the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil, a Netflix Original Series. Expect spoilers from the first season, but spoilers for the second season will be kept at a minimum.

Saint Matthew is back! – I loved the first season of Marvel’s Daredevil. It was the perfect show for me, as it outweighed the light nature of other Marvel Studios content. Since then we’ve seen the excellent first season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and how Daredevil lost its showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, with the latter leaving me very worried about the future of the show. The second season of Marvel’s Daredevil is the first piece of Marvel produced entertainment brought to you by Netflix in 2016, and I am glad to say that the level of entertainment is as high as it has ever been.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Daredevil – Season Two (2016)” →

REVIEW: 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)

The following is a review of ’10 Cloverfield Lane’, a Dan Trachtenberg film.

Let’s talk about expectations. The tagline of the film, “Monsters come in many forms,” is the truest representation of the film. With the original Cloverfield we were treated to a found-footage monster movie, but 10 Cloverfield Lane is a much more polished, suspenseful, and mysterious thriller. I’ve spoken to numerous people about the newest villains in the Star Wars saga, and what has become abundantly clear is that I don’t see eye to eye with a lot of the people criticizing the character of Kylo Ren. REVIEW: House of Cards – Season Four (2016)

The following is a review of the entire fourth season of House of Cards. Expect spoilers from seasons 1-3, but spoilers for the fourth season will be kept at a minimum.

House of Cards is one of my favorite shows ever, I would’ve said that prior to the release of the fourth season, and I’ll still say that now. Why do I bring this up? Just to inform you that this review comes from a fan of the show who happens to be a member of the target audience for the show: I am interested in American politics, I am a TV-nerd, and an admirer of Shakespeare-esque storytelling. I enjoyed the third season of House of Cards, which I know was somewhat polarizing. I liked it, but with the fourth season of House of Cards I’ll go as far as to say that I absolutely loved every second of it. I thought it was a spellbinding season.

REVIEW: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny (2016)

The following is a review of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny, a Netflix Original Film.

Netflix Original Films had a pretty good track record prior to the release of this Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-sequel. Beasts of No Nation is an excellent BAFTA-nominated war drama, and The Ridiculous Six, though awful and offensive, isn’t without its supporters, as it is such a ‘by-the-book’ offensive gross-out comedy. REVIEW: Love – Season One (2016)

The following is a season review of Love, a Netflix Original show.

Love is the newest Netflix Original show, and it came with a lot of baggage and expectations. Netflix Original shows have mostly been pretty excellent, and the last romantic comedy to come from Netflix (Master of None) was one of the better comedy shows of 2015. Also, Judd Apatow is the co-creator of Love, and therefore I had high expectations. Love is some sort of mixture of HBO’s Girls and Trainwreck, but it isn’t as good as either of them. REVIEW: Better Call Saul – “Switch”

The following is a review and ‘recap’ of the first episode of the second season of Better Call Saul, available on AMC in the U.S. and on Netflix in Europe. Expect story spoilers. 

Welcome back, Jimmy. You’ve been missed. It’s been more than ten months since the final episode of the first season of Better Call Saul aired on AMC. Better Call Saul was my favorite show of 2015, and I even loved its first season more than I loved the first season of the show that preceded it, Breaking Bad. Last year, I reviewed every single episode of Better Call Saul‘s first season, and gave a full season review – this year I plan to repeat that action completely.
