REVIEW: 12 Years A Slave (2013)

Fox Searchlight Pictures theatrical poster for 12 Years A Slave.

The following is a spoiler review for 12 Years A Slave.

At the 86th Academy Awards in early 2014, 12 Years A Slave was nominated for 9 awards, and only American Hustle & Gravity were nominated for more (both 10). In a less stellar year for movies — and with a little bit of luck on their side — Ejiofor and Fassbender might have left the night with Academy Awards, but, in the end, the film only received 3 Oscars. But it did receive the most important award of them all – Best Picture. And the film deserves the honor. Continue reading “REVIEW: 12 Years A Slave (2013)”

Suicide Squad is one of the most intriguing cinematic comic book-based projects out there, due to the involvement of the Joker and Harley Quinn – as well as the star power of Will Smith, Jared Leto, and Margot Robbie. Today the Comic Con trailer was released officially, so let’s look at what David Ayer & Co. have come up with. Continue reading “Suicide Squad – Comic Con First Look Trailer Review/Reaction”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Comic Con 2015 Trailer Review

The first Batman v Superman teaser didn’t really interest me. Sure, yes, it was very brief – but we didn’t see anything that really gave me faith for the film. I love Batman, I’ve lost a lot of love for Superman over the years – so this trailer really had to give me a strong show of the Caped Crusader. I am happy to say that this trailer made me a believer of this project. Continue reading “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – Comic Con 2015 Trailer Review”

Ranking Jurassic-Characters

Jurassic Ranking

The following is a ranking of the top 10 characters in the Jurassic Park-Franchise

Seeing as Jurassic World is breaking all of the box office records none of us thought could be broken by a fourth entry in a franchise that has been silent since 2001, I decided to make my own list of the very best characters in the Jurassic-Franchise.

Do note that no dinosaurs will be mentioned, as they – quite frankly – would dominate any list that included them. Don’t worry, no significant spoilers for Jurassic World will be revealed in this post – just in case someone out there didn’t see the blockbuster. Continue reading “Ranking Jurassic-Characters”

Real talk. Today’s post is really important. Today’s post is really personal. Today I am going to write about how Guardians of the Galaxy was a very special movie to me, and to my family – I am going to explain how it helped us out. I don’t just love that hero-squad because they got me back into comics. The film also helped me heal after the loss of a loved one. REVIEW: EX_MACHINA (2015)

The following is a review of EX_MACHINA — Directed by Alex Garland.

This is a film that I have been really excited about for a long time. The trailer just hooked me immediately. Though, for some unknown reason, I don’t believe it was ever released in theaters in Denmark. Therefore I had to wait until I got my hands on the Blu-Ray. Thankfully, the long wait was worth it. This is a cerebral science-fiction classic-in-the-making. Continue reading “REVIEW: EX_MACHINA (2015)”

REVIEW: Mad Max – Fury Road (2015)

Warner Bros. Pictures poster for Mad Max: Fury Road

The following is a review of Mad Max: Fury Road — Directed by George Miller.

Thirty years ago the last Mad Max-film, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, was released. Although all three films are beloved by fans, it is still somewhat of a cult franchise. Sure, very few people realize just how much the original Mad Max films gave to its genre. Yes, some people have surely understimated the impact of the film series. But the franchise is, by no means, a film that young audiences hold dear right now. Nevertheless, you don’t get many better dystopian action films than Mad Max: Road Warrior. However, I am pleased to report that the latest Mad Max-sequel, Mad Max: Fury Road, actually tops it. George Miller’s latest film is absolutely terrific.

REVIEW: Better Call Saul – Season One

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Better Call Saul - Season One
Expect Spoilers

When this spin-off from Breaking Bad was confirmed to be in development way back in 2013 I had my trepidations – I didn’t think it could work, I didn’t want anyone to mess with the legacy of something near-perfect. And the universe that Vince Gilligan had created with Breaking Bad was near perfect. But I was wrong about one thing: Better Call Saul‘s first season has only strengthened the universe – strengthened my attachment to the characters. REVIEW: Bloodline – Season One

I'm Jeffrey Rex - Bloodline Season OneBloodline is a new thriller-drama Netflix show that premiered on Friday March 20th 2015. Season One is up, and will probably be followed by a second season next year, seeing as this season is very entertaining. But I do have my qualms as this review should make clear by the end of it.

The show, made by the creators of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning show Damages, is about a Floridian family with a strong reputation; but also with an estranged member – the black sheep of the family, Danny (played by Ben Mendelsohn). Danny Rayburn quickly makes the family uneasy. As the shameful secrets of the Rayburn family are revealed to the audience, choices have to be made by Danny’s siblings.

Of course, don’t read this review until after you’ve seen the season. I might not spoil everything in this review, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. So, here’s your spoiler warning.
