The Academy Got It Wrong? – Motion Picture Thoughts #9

Academy Analysis 2016

This edition of Academy Analysis covers every Best Picture Winner since the 63rd ceremony (March 1991), ending with the 88th ceremony (February 2016).

So, one of the things I want to do in Motion Picture Thoughts is to really highlight the Academy Awards. I watch it every year. I obsess over nominees. I’m just incredibly intrigued by the Oscars. So, a couple of months ago, I decided to write about the best picture winners at the Oscars. In the future, I may focus on another award. Sunshine Blogger Award Nomination

sunshine-blogger-award

When I woke up today, I was informed that about a week ago, I was nominated for a Sunshine Blogger Award by Monday Morning Movie Quarterback. So, thank you very much, buddy! He and I had some great discussions about the Raimi Spider-Man films recently, and it’s great to hear that he enjoyed those discussions as well.

Okay, so, for the first ten minutes, or so, after I was notified of the nomination’s existence I was left wondering what a Sunshine Blogger Award was. Basically – it seems – that it’s a way for bloggers to give you a ‘pat on the back’ for the creative and positive writing you’ve done.

In this month’s Testing Television, I’m focusing on the big categories of the 68th Primetime Emmys. Since this is an Emmy special I won’t be going over television news, but the spotlight television show is a true Emmy darling, and the first animated show I’m writing about in spotlight! Resolving the Undecided, and the New Categories – IJR Awards

Awards Talk

We are less than six months away from the 4th annual I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards! Around this time last year, I announced the frontrunners for a couple of categories. That’s not how I’m doing it this time around, however. Today, I’ll change an undecided announcement from 2013. Plus, I’ll reveal the new categories for 2016!

88TH ACADEMY AWARDS: REACTION – MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS #7

MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

Leonardo DiCaprio – Academy Award-Winning Actor! Finally! The 88th Academy Awards was a great show, with a lot of great winners. Chris Rock was a really solid host, and, as a whole, it probably was one of the better Oscar shows in recent memory. Continue reading “88TH ACADEMY AWARDS: REACTION – MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS #7”

88th Academy Awards: Predictions – Motion Picture Thoughts #6

MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

I love the Academy Awards. There’s just something special about that show, even if I don’t think they pick the right winners each and every year. Often times I find myself agreeing with the nominees for the BAFTAs instead, but only the Academy Awards can make me straight-up giddy to see accolades being handed out. Today I’m trying to predict the winners of each and every category! Continue reading “88th Academy Awards: Predictions – Motion Picture Thoughts #6”

Reaction to the 88th Academy Award Nominations – Motion Picture Thoughts #5

MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

The Academy has announced what films are worthy to call themselves the best of 2015. The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, and The Martian were shown a lot of love in the nomination process, but Star Wars: The Force Awakens did get a handful of nominations as well. Now, let’s look at the nominations and discuss the odd Oscar snubs and the nominations that caught some by surprise. Predicting the Nominees for the 88th Academy Awards – Motion Picture Thoughts #4

MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

By this time tomorrow we will know which films will battle for some of the biggest awards in western cinema. One of my favorite days of the year is when the Academy announces the nominees. Cinephiles always have opinions about award snubs, and I’m always excited to take part in that conversation. This year it’ll probably end up being The Revenant versus Spotlight for the big awards, but don’t be surprised if the Academy shows a lot of love for either Mad Max: Fury Road or The Martian. Let’s try to predict the nominees! Continue reading “Predicting the Nominees for the 88th Academy Awards – Motion Picture Thoughts #4”

Golden Globe Awards: Predictions – Motion Picture Thoughts #3

MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

On the 10th of January 2016 Ricky Gervais hosts the 73rd Golden Globe Awards. In this Motion Picture Thoughts post I predict the winners in the film categories. Carol may have the most nominations, but I definitely think this is Spotlight‘s year. Keep in mind that these aren’t necessarily the films I want to see win, these are just who I think will.  Continue reading “Golden Globe Awards: Predictions – Motion Picture Thoughts #3”
