I love the Oscars. Sure, there’s almost always controversy. Sure, the Academy doesn’t always recognize my favorite films, but it’s always entertaining. To me, at the very least. But I just realized something. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the top of pretty much every Hollywood actor’s wish list, somehow the franchise has never won an Oscar.

Marvelous Monday in 2016 posts once a month, on the second Monday of the month.
In anticipation for Captain America: Civil War, I decided to write reviews for every single Marvel Cinematic Universe-film from the first two phases. I already had four written reviews (Winter Soldier; Guardians of the Galaxy; Age of Ultron; Ant-Man), but I thought it was important for me to state my complete opinions on these films, like I did with the original Star Wars trilogy last year. So, over the last few weeks I’ve been writing full reviews for all films released in the M.C.U. so far, with the goal of finishing the reviews for you today, at the latest.

We won’t see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 until 2017, but last week we got our first batch of casting news. Who might be playing Mantis? Which Academy Award winner reportedly turned down the Marvel film? Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #42 – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Casting News”
One of the biggest criticism of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the fact that its villains aren’t that great. I don’t necessarily agree with the claim that Loki is the only good villain, but there aren’t that many great ones.

Right now – over at Marvel Comics – we’re witnessing the end of an era. Secret Wars is basically the end of the Marvel Universe, whereas All-New, All-Different Marvel is the rebirth. Let’s take a look at what new comics you have to read as a Marvel fan. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #36 – All-New, All-Different Reading List”
Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe begins in 2016, but rumors are already coming in. So, before we get any official trailers for Phase Three films, let’s try to make some predictions! Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #35 – Nine Phase Three Predictions”
Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe consisted of six films: starting with Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, and ending with Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man. As of the 12th of August Marvel’s Phase Two has grossed $5,073,945,033 at the box office, and has been nominated for four Academy Awards. Meanwhile, the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films (Saturn Awards) has nominated the Phase Two films for a total of 30 Saturn Awards (having won 7 so far).
However, we must note that Ant-Man is still making money for Marvel Studios, and that neither Ant-Man nor Avengers: Age of Ultron has had an opportunity to be nominated for an Academy Award or a Saturn Award. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #31 – Phase Two Awards”
On August 1st 1986 – almost 29 years ago – Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, and Universal Pictures released the critically panned sci-fi comedy comic book movie Howard The Duck. On today’s Marvelous Monday, I look into the character everyone loved in the Guardians of the Galaxy post-credits scene. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #23 – Howard The Duck”
Spoiler Warning For: Guardians of the Galaxy
Real talk. Today’s post is really important. Today’s post is really personal. Today I am going to write about how Guardians of the Galaxy was a very special movie to me, and to my family – I am going to explain how it helped us out. I don’t just love that hero-squad because they got me back into comics. The film also helped me heal after the loss of a loved one. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #22 – Guardians of the Galaxy Was Special To Me”
Okay, so I was gonna put a spoiler warning here – but you’ve all seen Guardians of the Galaxy. RIGHT!?
Guardians of the Galaxy was the best mainstream film of last year, and was surprisingly fairly seperate from the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other than Rocket and Groot, the soundtrack was the breakout star of the film – and for some (me) it’s the very best movie soundtrack of all-time.
