That also means that we need to start looking forward to some of the films that are released next year. I, obviously, don’t know if any or all of these will be good, or even great, but with this list I’m trying to point out which films I’m super excited for. REVIEW: Midnight Special (2016)

Film Poster - Warner Bros.
Film Poster – Warner Bros.

The following is a review of Jeff Nichols’s Midnight Special.

Jeff Nichols is one of the most promising young directors out there. His first feature film – Shotgun Stories – was an excellent low-budget revenge tale about brotherhood. His two other films – Take Shelter & Mud – are very impressive too, and they clearly show that Nichols is a very talented filmmaker.

With Midnight Special, Jeff Nichols has made his first film in the science-fiction genre, and it’s a film I’ve been very excited about for a long time. This was Nichols’s chance to make a film that would really get his name out there, but here’s the problem: it isn’t as good as it should have been. Continue reading “REVIEW: Midnight Special (2016)”

We Need To Talk About Kylo – Dagobah Day #10

Dagobah Day - 2016

Attention: the following post contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

I’ve spoken to numerous people about the newest villains in the Star Wars saga, and what has become abundantly clear is that I don’t see eye to eye with a lot of the people criticizing the character of Kylo Ren. I’ve found myself defending his character, his development, his design, and the like on multiple occasions. I’m getting really tired of seeing people misinterpreting the greatness of Kylo Ren, so this month’s Dagobah Day is all about Kylo! Continue reading “We Need To Talk About Kylo – Dagobah Day #10”

REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Theatrical Poster – The Force Awakens

The following is a spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams.

Set three decades after Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows the scavenging Rey (played by Daisy Ridley); the best pilot in the Resistance, Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac); and a troubled stormtrooper, Finn (played by John Boyega), as they are suddenly thrown into a galaxy-wide search for someone or something… That is all I’ll say about the general plot of the film, which does feature the original three characters that we know and love. Star Wars is back! Continue reading “REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”

Today I look at the 2016 U.S. release schedule, and pick 10 of my most anticipated films of the 2016. Let’s get to it! Continue reading “My 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2016”

The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6

This might be my favorite trailer of the year. While it didn’t have the incredible “Chewie, we’re home” moment, it did make me tear up – while not really revealing anything about the story. A masterful trailer. Let’s now look at the most important shots in the trailer! Continue reading “The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6”

Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Dagobah Day

It feels like it was only last week that Disney acquired LucasFilm. But that was, in fact, way back in 2012. Time flies. The Force Awakens is only a few months away from opening in theaters worldwide. Now, before we get too many teasers, trailers, and toy leaks, I thought that I would give my predictions for Episode VII. Continue reading “Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5”
