Six months ago I was very vocal in saying that Marvel should probably rethink Ant-Man – its release, the film – everything. I even said they should table the character until they, inevitably, reboot the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Kinda Funny Crew Quits IGN
On the fifth of January 2015 Greg Miller, Colin Moriarty, Tim Gettys & Nick Scarpino all announced that they had resigned from their positions at IGN – the world-famous entertainment site. Greg Miller has been known as the face of IGN since becoming the host of IGN’s Up at Noon & Podcast BEYOND! Colin Moriarty, his co-host of Podcast BEYOND!, is widely known for his reviews, stories, and history articles.
The two, now-former, IGN producers Tim Gettys & Nick Scarpino aren’t as well known to the casual reader of IGN – but they are hugely important. Scarpino, known as the Producer/Seducer on Kinda Funny, is one of the unsung heroes of IGN – and has been featured more these last few months on Up at Noon‘s new News You Care About-segment. Gettys, who brings a nice touch to the GameOverGreggy Show (the Kinda Funny flagship podcast) as a YouTube connoisseur, has been known for his IGN Daily Fix-campaign #LetTimHost.
These 4 incredibly talented men leave IGN not to join a new entertainment site – but to strengthen their passion project Kinda Funny. Now, I bring this to your attention – not because I was paid to do it, or anything like that – but as a favour to the passion project that I’ve followed since it was just one guy reviewing Oreos, and two guys talking about the electoral college.
But how can four guys support themselves without a huge corporation backing them? It’s simple – though they’ll still make money as freelancers, simple YouTubers and such – they ask that you become a part of their community. And in turn, maybe that you one day want to support them. But no pressure – everything will be free in due time, if that’s what you prefer.
Now, I’m not telling you to support them. I’m asking you to take a look at some of their videos. I love these guys, I, personally, support them on both their Kinda Funny-Patreon and their new Kinda Funny Games-Patreon. They know a lot about the video game media, the process, the industry – they know a lot about YouTube, film, history, politics. If you’re interested take a look here at their website.

New Year’s Speech: “Goodbye 2014”

Once I used to take great pride in my New Year’s Speeches, especially those that I uploaded to my Blogspot-I’m Jeffrey Rex blog. When that blog was drowned by the internet dust, I gave up on uploading these speeches – and therefore I did not give you one at the end of 2013. Now, however, I’ve decided to return to the comfortable world of speech writing. With that having been said, I haven’t done this in a long time – so beware.
The two speeches that I was able to upload to the archive on this blog both had specific dedications. I dedicated 2011 to democracy, and 2012 to the victims of mass shootings. Seeing as I never wrote this type of speech in 2013, I never got to dedicate that year to anything – but retroactively I’d probably dedicate it to the freedom fighters that chose to stand up against their own nation, their own government – the ones that do what is best for the many civilians. I’m talking about Snowden, of course, and people like him. Some things should be kept secret, but the information leaked did also aid us in understanding the governmental injustices of a Goliath in the western world.
But enough of that, let’s get to 2014. A year that is full of disappointment for me, loss, a depressed state, but also a year in which I finally got to do what I really wanted.
F.P.: New Direction
On monday December 29th 2014 the Chicago Bears fired three very important people. First it was general manager Phil Emery, then head coach Marc Trestman – and finally Aaron Kromer. Along with that, new information surfaced about the hiring of Marc Trestman.
This post will tell you why you need to fire these three men – and who I would like to see in Chicago in 2015. Before doing that though, let me state the obvious – the Trestman/QB-Guru project was a disaster.
So, Phil Emery is perhaps the most shocking sack of the season for non-Bears fans. Let’s state why he’s gone.
- His draft picks didn’t work out – we practically only have fond memories of Jeffery and Long…
- Emery stated that they would progress, become even better – when they actually went from 10-6, to 8-8 and now 5-11.
- Emery hired Trestman to fix the offense. He did not.
- This:
“At the time, the plan was to retain the highly regarded Marinelli to run the defense. And he had planned to, remaining on even after close friend Smith was fired. But back in mid-January 2013, as part of their final selection process for a head coach to replace Smith, Emery and the organization had Marinelli interview the three finalists for the head-coaching job.
Marinelli was asked to rank the three. He did. Arians was his runaway first choice; Bevell was the second; Trestman was a distant third.
Emery selected Trestman.
When he learned of the decision, Marinelli abruptly angrily resigned and left Halas Hall for Dallas and a de facto demotion to defensive line coach.” – John Mullins, CSNCHICAGO.COM.
So, this is basically self-explanatory. The same can be said for Kromer and Trestman.
- Aaron Kromer outed his personal problems with Jay Cutler to the press… Inexcusable, instantly fired in my humble opinion.
- Destroying an offense you were hired to fix.
- Doing the reverse-Lovie Smith (not having balance defensively).
- Not utilizing your best player (Matt Forte), i.e. not running the ball.
I will say, I wanted Trestman – but it didn’t work out. The fact that Chicago could have had Arians AND our old DC, but chose not to is inexcusable. So now Bears look ahead for new hirings. Therefore we need to mention some possibilities. First let’s look at my preferred GM:
- Jeff Ireland – former GM of the Miami Dolphins.
This guy has plenty of experience, his granddad has ties to the Bears – and he himself was a ball boy for the Chicago Bears once. This could be a perfect fit.
No full analysis of the various HC candidates, but I’ll list my top 5 here in no particular order:
- Mike Shanahan, former LA Raiders, Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos Head Coach.
- Rex Ryan, former New York Jets Head Coach (son of former Bears DC, Buddy Ryan).
- Dave Toub, former Chicago Bears Special Teams Coordinator.
- Greg Roman, current Offensive Coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers.
- Dan Quinn, current Defensive Coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks.

What Am I Reading? 6 of 6
The following post is the sixth of six revolving around what I am reading (mostly comics) in 2014. Every post will cover two months, and therefore this one will cover November and December. Do note that this bimonthly post might be discontinued after 2014.
As for books, I’m focusing on Netherland (pictured above), as for comics? Currently I’m trying to catch up on Scott Snyder’s Batman-run. I’m enjoying what I’m reading, but with UCPH I’m having a tough time catching up.
During November I’ve read parts of Perks of Being a Wallflower, and so far I am loving it.
In December I probably won’t read many books out of want, but rather out of need – i.e. a lot of exams in December (and January).
Happy Halloween – What To Watch?
Hey there, today I’d like to suggest a couple of films that me and my family loves to watch on Halloween. Sure, Halloween’s not strictly a Scandinavian-tradition – but as Denmark has been Americanized (or rather its youth has been), we’ve started to adopt things.
So, today I’d like to show you some of the films my family likes to watch on Halloween. With that having been said, the obvious ones won’t be featured – i.e. don’t expect films like Halloween or Trick ‘r Treat.
Marvel Reveals Phase 3
On tuesday the 28th of October 2014 Marvel Studios decided it was time to reveal their Phase 3-line-up, something that’s been discussed and speculated upon on pretty much every site – including this one. Now, in my aforementioned post regarding MCU Speculation I theorized on quite a bit – and some of it was spot on. Thor 3 will indeed be Ragnarok, and Black Panther is getting his own movie. Though there were a couple, if not quite a few, surprises that surprised even the biggest Marvel True Believers. In this post I’ll go over the most interesting choices year by year for the Phase 3 Line-up – including, but not limited to, new characters.
2016 – The Big Event & The Sorcerer Supreme
So here we go, Captain America 3 – directed by the Russo Brothers – will be The Serpent Society… Or, well, Feige wanted to fool us all, I guess. At the last minute he revealed that the rumours were true. The epic Marvel Comics Event Civil War will be adapted to the big screen.
This was a polarizing Comic Book Event, but a huge reveal for the MCU – everyone who’ve held Marvel Comic Books for the last few years should know what this means. This is the battle of ideologies between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. Interestingly, they also revealed that Black Panther will indeed be a part of this film – but I’ll get to him, and the confirmed actor, later in this post. A huge part of the comic book event is secret identities, now Feige pretty much revealed that that won’t be a huge part of the cinematic version – and that’s a good thing – because Spider-Man is still in Sony‘s possession. This is by far the film I’m most excited about in the cinematic universe – and it blows my mind that we will see Captain America versus Iron Man in the same summer as Batman v Superman – this is quite obviously a battle, not only for fanboys, but in Hollywood as well.

Here we go, Dr Strange is indeed coming to cinemas – it might be rushed somewhat – but it is coming. I really wanted Joaquin Phoenix, and apparently so did Marvel – but when that deal fell apart, I was open to a lot of things; and Benedict Cumberbatch was one of those. Of course, Benedict is not yet confirmed as Dr Strange – but I’ll trust Deadline on this one. If it falls apart, though, this could end up as a bigger media-nightmare than Ant-Man was for Marvel. All in all though, Cumberbatch would make me pretty excited for this film.
2017 – Star-Lord, T’Challa & The End
Now, Star-Lord and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 are not going to be written about in this article – however it is notable that its date has been changed (Now being released on the 5th of May 2017). The big pieces of news here are the arrivals of T’Challa and the end of all things in the Norse Mythology.
As I wrote in July, Chadwick Boseman would be an excellent choice – and indeed it is – Boseman’s star is rising, and this won’t slow it down. The fact of the matter is that this character is extremely important to True Believers. Also, his involvement in Civil War will instantly make him a part of the greater importance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – this casting is huge. T’Challa is going to be important, and I am extremely excited about this film – and the casting of Boseman is making me completely giddy.
Judgement Day is coming for Asgard. Now, this is important – not only because of it being a third film – but because it has to change something, something has to end. I could easily see Thor die in this film, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that happened because of the ruler of Asgard, Odin, I mean Loki. I would love to see Thor battle Fenrir or the Midgard Serpent – but honestly, I don’t know enough about solo-Thor stories in the Marvel Comic Books.
2018 + 2019 – Infinity & Beyond
Now, this is where everyone went completely nuts. Not only is Avengers 3, now titled Infinity War (obviously about the big Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos – the whole shebang), to be split into two parts – one in 2018, one in 2019 – but we’re also getting the Carol Danvers-movie…. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Inhumans-movie. Nerds all over the globe lost their minds.
This is huge for female nerds around the world, and females in general one might say. We need more female superheroes, and this is a great start. I wouldn’t mind seeing her in the Cosmic Universe – if that means she won’t just suit up with the Guardians, this is a solo star, not just a part of the gang. To be honest, I’d rather have the Kamala Khan Ms. Marvel, but that may be too fresh for the MCU – hopefully, we’ll eventually see her.
It is being theorized that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch will be mutants, I mean Inhumans, in this universe – and that would make sense with this reveal. With that having been said, we need Black Bolt in an eventual film – and hopefully Lockjaw. But to be honest, I don’t know enough about the Inhumans to truly evaluate them – but that is really exciting.
So that’s it, True Believers – Phase 3 will be the biggest yet – and the most diverse for sure. I predict the loss of at least two Avengers-heroes by 2019 – and I’m eyeing Stark, Rogers and/or Odinson. We’ll see, but one thing’s for sure – Marvel’s not slowing down. Not. At. All. Buckle up.
What Am I Reading? 5 of 6
The following post is the fifth of six revolving around what I am reading (mostly comics) in 2014. Every post will cover two months, and therefore this one will cover September and October.
So, my third semester at the University of Copenhagen has begun – and that means most of my reading is study based. As you should be able to see, the top picture for this post is the cover of The Great Gatsby – that’s because it’s part of my curriculum. That will take up a substantial amount of time this semester. What’s being read early on in this semester has primarily been LeRoy Ashby’s With Amusement For All – which is about US Popular culture in the 19th and 20th century. I’m enjoying it. Sadly, that leaves little room for comics. However…
With the movie having already been green-lit, I’m trying to catch up on Dr. Stephen Strange – much like I did with the Guardians of the Galaxy when it was announced a very, very long time ago. So far, I’m liking what I’m reading – and there’s a lot of potential here. As for now, though, I’m not ready to dive into origin reviews and such.
