Having now seen Avengers: Age of Ultron and released a spoiler-free review, I’m ready to now look forward to the next Marvel Cinematic Universe-film. And the next one up (the Phase 2 epilogue) is a controversial one for some, it’s finally – FINALLY – time for Ant-Man.
“Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.” – Marvel Official Plot Synopsis
So, I’ve flip-flopped on Ant-Man. Initially I didn’t know if I wanted it to be made, and then I was getting more and more excited. Right now, I’ve got to admit, I’m really really excited about Ant-Man. So what changed? There are a couple of things to note here – including a perfect trailer – but I’ll get to that. First, though, let’s talk about the cast.
I love Paul Rudd. A funny guy, which is good in the MCU, and he is to be coupled with Michael Douglas – I love that odd couple of Ant-Men. Evangeline Lily was wonderful in Lost, and even though I didn’t care for her story in The Hobbit-trilogy, I really like the idea of her in the MCU.
Now if you’ve seen House of Cards season one, then you know who Peter Russo is… I mean Corey Stoll. I enjoyed him in that show, and I’m excited to see what he’s able to do with the role of the MCU antagonist – though I suspect it’s just another one-off antagonist.
Edgar Wright would’ve been great for Ant-Man, but now that he’s gone – I’m settling into the idea of having Adam McKay and Paul Rudd writing it. Similarly, I’m not opposed to Peyton Reed directing it. Marvel has a good track-record with their directors, so I have faith in Feige and Co.
But the one thing that made me incredibly excited for the film is the trailer featuring Thomas the Train – hilarious trailer:
Are you excited for Ant-Man? Have you seen Age of Ultron? Did you love Age of Ultron as much as I did? Sound off in the comments!
