The following is a review of Doctor Strange. The reviewed film was seen in IMAX 3D.

At this point, people expect a lot from Marvel Studios. Doctor Strange is the fourteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and most of these films have been pretty well-received. Still, Doctor Strange is a bit of a risk, seeing as it is introducing magic and beings from other dimensions to the universe.

While Doctor Strange has to introduce its own corner of the universe with just this film, Marvel Studios has been releasing these films in a smart way. Marvel Studios has, essentially, been preparing moviegoers for this kind of film with Thor, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy.

REACTION: Doctor Strange – IMAX Preview

IMAX Preview Screen

On Tuesday night, I was in Copenhagen to watch the 15-minute IMAX preview presentation of Marvel’s Doctor Strange. It was a real experience, so I thought I’d tell you about it. Honestly, Doctor Strange looks incredible, and if you attended a screening of these 15 minutes then you’d be convinced. Cinematographer Ben Davis wasn’t lying when he called this Marvel’s Fantasia.

Marvel at the Oscars – Marvelous Monday #56

marvelous-monday-oscars

I love the Oscars. Sure, there’s almost always controversy. Sure, the Academy doesn’t always recognize my favorite films, but it’s always entertaining. To me, at the very least. But I just realized something. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on the top of pretty much every Hollywood actor’s wish list, somehow the franchise has never won an Oscar.

Box Office: Doctor Strange Predictions! – Marvelous Monday #54

Marvelous Monday Outline

Firstly, I need to prepare you for a pretty different ‘look’ for Marvelous Monday. It’s my longest running opinion-piece series. I always try to change or tweak the series a little bit, and now I’ve decided to really copy some of what I’ve done with Testing Television.

In every post, I’ll mention the most important pieces of news in a section called Marvelous Bugle, named after the Daily Bugle, of course. And the other section of Marvelous Monday will now be called Opinion, and I’ll give my thoughts there on the topic I’ve chosen for that month.

This month my focus is on what we should expect Doctor Strange to make at the box office, but Marvelous Bugle will be all about what was announced at San Diego Comic Con 2016!

Trailer Review: Marvel’s Doctor Strange (Teaser Trailer #1)

Our first look at Marvel’s Doctor Strange has hit the Web! Marvelous Monday #44 – Doctor Strange is One Year Away

Doctor Strange

2016 is a huge year for comic book movies, and especially for the two biggest comic book companies: Marvel and DC. We have X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. But don’t forget about Doctor Strange. While it’s definitely the film the least number of people are buzzing about, it might just be the most interesting of them all. This is supposedly Marvel’s Fantasia. Marvelous Monday #37 – Pre-Phase Three Watchlist

Da Marvelous Monday

The first two phases of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe have ended, and the third phase is looking to be the largest and most expensive yet. Still, there are a ton of films coming up in the third phase that we need to prepare for. Today I’ve assembled a watchlist for people interested in the new actors, directors, and writers for two of Marvel’s third phase films. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #37 – Pre-Phase Three Watchlist”

Marvelous Monday #36 – All-New, All-Different Reading List

Da Marvelous Monday

Right now – over at Marvel Comics – we’re witnessing the end of an era. Secret Wars is basically the end of the Marvel Universe, whereas All-New, All-Different Marvel is the rebirth. Let’s take a look at what new comics you have to read as a Marvel fan. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #36 – All-New, All-Different Reading List”

Marvelous Monday #28 – 2016 is a problem

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday - 28

Superhero films are extremely popular right now. We are, indeed, in the golden age of comic book films – but it won’t last forever. The last few years have been pretty good for comic book movies – 2012 was a successful year for The Avengers – 2013 was a successful year for Iron Man 3 – 2014 produced three great superhero films – and 2015 is actually a light year for superhero films, seeing as there are only three films total this year. But here’s the thing, there are too many superhero films next year… 2016 is a problem. Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #28 – 2016 is a problem”

Report: Chiwetel Ejiofor Possibly Starring Opposite Cumberbatch in Dr Strange

Chiwetel Ejiofor, who starred in 12 Years A Slave, is possibly going to star opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s Doctor Strange in 2016. Ejiofor has not signed anything yet, apparently, and, as of right now, he is only in talks to become a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It is unlikely that Ejiofor will play the Ancient One or Wong, I wonder if he’s eyed for the role of Baron Mordo. If Ejiofor is in for a big role in the Doctor Strange universe – but not as Mordo, Wong, or the Ancient One – then Marvel may be looking for Dormammu.

Scott Derrickson is directing the Doctor Strange film, which premieres the 4th of November 2016 in US cinemas.
