Marvelous Monday #44 – Doctor Strange is One Year Away

Doctor Strange

2016 is a huge year for comic book movies, and especially for the two biggest comic book companies: Marvel and DC. We have X-Men: Apocalypse, Captain America: Civil War, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad. But don’t forget about Doctor Strange. While it’s definitely the film the least number of people are buzzing about, it might just be the most interesting of them all. This is supposedly Marvel’s Fantasia.

In exactly one year from now most superhero film fans will have seen the film at least once, and that’s the main reason why I wanted to highlight the picture. But there is also another reason why I’ve chosen to do so. Slowly, but surely, we are seeing some photos leak from the film. It’s the perfect time to build up some kind of buzz.

Excluding the Avengers-films, this might be the best cast list ever in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave), Rachel McAdams (True Detective), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), and Micharl Stuhlbarg (Boardwalk Empire). Keep in mind that I’m not exactly sure if Mads Mikkelsen has been officially announced yet, but he would be an excellent addition.

Jon Spaihts is writing the film, and the great horror director Scott Derrickson is directing Doctor Strange. I’m really excited about this team, as I think there’s a good chance they can mix some horror and sci-fi elements. If you want to know more about the writer, director, or lead actor, then check out my Pre-phase Three Watchlist.

Are you excited for Doctor Strange? Sound off in the coments.
