REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Theatrical Release Poster – Disney / Lucasfilm

The following is a review of Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker — Directed by J. J. Abrams.

Although the subtitle of this film suggests otherwise, Disney has been pretty adamant in saying that the Skywalker saga (i.e. the episodes) is coming to an end with this ninth episode, which thus ends Disney’s sequel trilogy. It has been a trilogy that has been bumpier than I expected it to be, which is largely due to Lucasfilm hirings and firings, as well as the return of a rabid, entitled, and toxic part of the Star Wars fandom, which has been determined to have their say on what can and cannot be appreciated about these films. This part of fandom has been absolutely infuriating, and it has robbed Star Wars fans of the happiness that one should get when you discuss something that you love. J. J. Abrams’ The Force Awakens was an undeniably satisfying and very rewatchable table-setter, and Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi was an ambitious, bold, and critically acclaimed exploration of legacy, legends, and failure. Now we have The Rise of Skywalker, J. J. Abrams’ curtain-closer. Though I did ultimately enjoy the film, I have to admit and acknowledge that this is definitely the sequel trilogy’s low-point, in part due to Abrams’ obvious attempt to appease parts of the fandom that could only be pacified by reversing decisions that were made in Rian Johnson’s film. REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017)

Theatrical Release Poster – Disney / Lucasfilm

The following is my review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Directed by Rian Johnson.

There is nothing like Star Wars. The Star Wars saga includes the biggest films of all-time, the most influential films of all-time, and one of the most rabid and passionate fandoms in popular culture. There is an innumerable amount of lore about the galaxy far, far away, and the philosophy of Jediism was once recorded as a religion. Star Wars, as author Chris Taylor wrote, conquered the universe, and its influences can be felt throughout popular culture.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017)”

TRAILER REVIEW: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Official Trailer) – Dagobah Day #34

Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last ten hours or so, you should know that tickets for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are now available. We also got a new poster last night, and a full trailer during the halftime of the Monday Night Football game between the Minnesota Vikings and my Chicago Bears.

TRAILER REVIEW: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Official Teaser Trailer) – Dagobah Day #32

Breathe. Just breathe. — The first trailer for the next chapter in the Skywalker Saga is here, and it is a pretty amazing teaser trailer that, thankfully, doesn’t reveal too much about the plot while still feeding us plenty of exciting moments, shots, character returns, and general character arc hints. Let’s have a look at what’s been shown to us here. Continue reading “TRAILER REVIEW: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Official Teaser Trailer) – Dagobah Day #32”

Top 10 Best Moments in The Force Awakens – Dagobah Day #29

best-moments-tfa

Last year, I made two lists about the two first Star Wars trilogies. The list for the Prequel Trilogy was rather difficult to put together, while the list for the Original Trilogy was much more fun to do. I’ve previously promised to return to The Force Awakens (which I’ve seen 14 or 15 times by now) and, finally, make a ‘Top 10 Best Moments in The Force Awakens‘ list. Today I’m finally ready to reveal the list. Let’s get to it. Continue reading “Top 10 Best Moments in The Force Awakens – Dagobah Day #29”

REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens

Theatrical Poster – The Force Awakens

The following is a spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams.

Set three decades after Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows the scavenging Rey (played by Daisy Ridley); the best pilot in the Resistance, Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac); and a troubled stormtrooper, Finn (played by John Boyega), as they are suddenly thrown into a galaxy-wide search for someone or something… That is all I’ll say about the general plot of the film, which does feature the original three characters that we know and love. Star Wars is back! Continue reading “REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens”

The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6

This might be my favorite trailer of the year. While it didn’t have the incredible “Chewie, we’re home” moment, it did make me tear up – while not really revealing anything about the story. A masterful trailer. Let’s now look at the most important shots in the trailer! Continue reading “The Force Awakens Official Trailer (Trailer Review/Reaction) – Dagobah Day #6”

Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Dagobah Day

It feels like it was only last week that Disney acquired LucasFilm. But that was, in fact, way back in 2012. Time flies. The Force Awakens is only a few months away from opening in theaters worldwide. Now, before we get too many teasers, trailers, and toy leaks, I thought that I would give my predictions for Episode VII. Continue reading “Force Awakens Predictions – Dagobah Day #5”
