REVIEW: Creed II (2018)

US Theatrical Release Poster – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer

The following is a review of Creed II — Directed by Steven Caple, Jr.

Back in early July this year, I watched and reviewed the highly anticipated sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario. The sequel subtitled Day of the Soldado was directed by Stefano Sollima and his film provided us with a perfect example of just how wrong it can go when you make a change in the director’s chair for a sequel. Day of the Soldado was offensive and hollow, and it is one of the biggest film disappointments of the year for me. Continue reading “REVIEW: Creed II (2018)”

It’s time for another Top Ten Tuesday. I’m still getting through the best heroes of this decade, and we’ve reached 2015. Do note that these characters aren’t solely ranked on how heroic their actions are. Also, some heroes may not be traditional heroes. In fact, this list includes groups of heroes too. Without further ado, here are the top ten movie heroes of 2015. Trailer Review: Assassin’s Creed (Official Trailer #1)

The Assassin’s Creed trailer is finally here! I’ve been pretty excited for this film for a while as it was on my ‘My 10 Most Anticipated Film of 2016‘ list. I’ve played 7 of the current 9 games in the Assassin’s Creed main series of games. Justin Kurzel is directing the film, and both Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard star in the video game adaptation: it’s basically a Macbeth-reunion. The Kurzel-Macbeth was great, and I am so excited to see if this will be the first truly great movie based on a video game. So, let’s discuss the trailer. MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS

Leonardo DiCaprio – Academy Award-Winning Actor! Finally! The 88th Academy Awards was a great show, with a lot of great winners. Chris Rock was a really solid host, and, as a whole, it probably was one of the better Oscar shows in recent memory. Continue reading “88TH ACADEMY AWARDS: REACTION – MOTION PICTURE THOUGHTS #7”

I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards 2015: Nominations Announced

It’s about time for the third annual I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards! Writing it like that makes it sound super silly and serious all at the same time – don’t worry, I realize that! This year there are a total of 18 awards or titles. Each title has a maximum number of five nominees, and a minimum of three.

Today, in this post, I’m revealing the entire list of nominees, before returning with the official IJR Awards 2015 presentation on Monday the 21st of December. I had considered presenting the titles on the 18th of December, but due to the fact that I want spoilers for The Force Awakens to stay at a minimum on this site, I will not give myself the possibility of speaking in spoiler-language until the Monday after its release.

Speaking of Star Wars, I’ll be seeing it on the 16th of December, and due to the franchise’s place in my heart I’ll reserve a spot in each relevant category for The Force Awakens. Continue reading “I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards 2015: Nominations Announced”

REVIEW: Creed (2015)

Release Poster – Warner Bros.

The following is a review of ‘Creed’, a Ryan Coogler film.

The boxing saga that is the story of Rocky Balboa is immensely popular, with it having been relevant and present since 1976. Interestingly, we’ve seen a Rocky-film in every decade since John G. Avildsen and Sylvester Stallone first gave the Italian Stallion an opportunity against Apollo Creed in the 1977 Academy Awards Best Picture winner. Creed is a soft reboot of the franchise set 39 years after the events of Rocky, and I was surprised to feel that it might be the best film in the Rocky Balboa-saga.
