As always Favorite Thespians contains three separate sections: one section on the first film I saw the thespian in (“On My Radar”), another section on 5 films you need to see to know the thespian (“Homework”), and a section on my favorite performance from him/her. This month I’m focusing on one of my favorite actors right now, Michael Fassbender. Continue reading “Favorite Thespians #4 – Michael Fassbender”→
Theatrical Release Poster – Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures
The following is a review of Disney’s The Jungle Book, a Jon Favreau Film. The reviewed film was seen in IMAX 3D.
Jon Favreau is a great director that has shown his talents both with blockbusters, like Iron Man, and with smaller, personal films, like Chef, so when he was announced for the ‘live-action’ Disney remake of the famous Rudyard Kipling stories the film community was very excited. I am so happy to write here that The Jungle Book might be the very best film Favreau has ever made, as well as Disney’s best attempt at improving and updating an animated classic. The following is a review of The Break-In, a Justin Doescher film.
I was recently approached online by filmmaker Justin Doescher, and asked to review his newest film, The Break-In. I was happy to do so, and so I sat down to watch his 72-minute long attempt at making a found-footage horror film, which takes inspiration from films like Oren Peli’s Paranormal Activity.
The Break-In follows Jeff Anderson (played by Justin Doescher) and Melissa Joseph (played by Maggie Binkley), an expectant couple who lives in a townhouse complex that has been the target of numerous burglaries. Continue reading “REVIEW: The Break-In (2016)”→
The following is a review of Hush, available on Netflix right now.
Hush follows Maddie Young (played by Kate Siegel), a deaf-mute woman who lives on her own in the woods, on a night where her worst fears are realized, when a masked man (played by John Gallagher, Jr.) wielding a crossbow shows up at her doorstep to terrorize her. The following is a review of The Invitation, available in some regions on Vimeo via Drafthouse Films. I attribute it to 2016, due to the fact that it was only released at festivals in 2015 and had its official release in 2016.
This film wasn’t anywhere on my radar until very recently. I didn’t hear about this film until a few weeks ago, when I was watching Meet the Movie Press, and The Wrap‘s Jeff Sneider brought up this suspense thriller he had just seen. I looked its trailer up on YouTube and I was instantly intrigued. The Invitation is a really neat thriller. Continue reading “REVIEW: The Invitation (2016)”→
It’s finally here! I’ve been really excited for the first Anthology Film in the Star Wars canon, and Rogue One is that film. It tells the story of how the Rebel Alliance got the plans to the Death Star. Basically, this is one of the most intriguing stories to tell around the time of the original trilogy. So, watch the trailer, come back to this page, and then let’s go over some of the shots in the trailer. Continue reading “Trailer Review: Rogue One (Teaser Trailer #1) – Dagobah Day #12”→
The following is a spoiler-free review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a Zack Snyder film.
Batman v Superman is finally here! Comic book fans have been wanting to see this film for decades, and moviegoers have been waiting for a proper sequel to Man of Steel since 2013. Somehow this film had to appease both audiences. My complicated history with Man of Steel has been heavily documented on this blog, and I don’t think I’ve really loved a Zack Snyder-film since his remake of Dawn of the Dead.
Needless to say, I was really worried about this film. Superman used to be one of my favorite comic book characters, and Batman still is one of my favorites – I want them to be given a proper treatment on the big screen. I just wanted to like it – that is all I wanted from this film. But, to be perfectly honest, I did not. At least not all of it. Continue reading “REVIEW: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)”→
In honor of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice being released in March, I am moving my Favorite Thespians-schedule around a bit. For one time only, Favorite Thespians is being released the day before I’m seeing the thespian’s latest film. This time it’s all about Ben Affleck!
Favorite Thespians is a monthly opinion piece wherein I name one of my favorite actors or actresses. Favorite Thespians contains three separate sections: one section on the first film I saw the thespian in (“On My Radar”), another section on 5 films you need to see to know the thespian (“Homework”), and a section on my favorite performance from him/her. The following is a review of Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (2016), a Netflix Original Film.
The character ‘Pee-wee Herman’ was a comedic hit primarily in the 1980s. By releasing a film starring Paul Reubens’ Pee-wee Herman, Netflix were hoping to cash in on the heavy pull of nostalgia. While I’m sure that worked for a lot of people, that would never work for me with this character. I had never seen anything with Pee-wee Herman. I didn’t grow up with the character. I might’ve seen what the character looks like before, but I didn’t know what I was getting into when I sat down to watch it… But I had a lot of fun with this film.
