Should we be surprised at how much Batman v Superman has made so far?
I’ve been of the opinion that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was a critic-proof movie. It didn’t need to be good, people would watch it anyway, because it’s Batman and Superman in the same movie. The opening weekend in North America was strong, but that’s really the only box office result that was a good sign. In China the film probably won’t make as much money as Ant-Man did. And the second weekend percentage drop-off at the North American box office was huge. So, I’m not really all that shocked at seeing the North American results, but the news from China is disheartening for WB.
Is this April more of a ‘calm before the summer-storm’ kind of movie month?
In short, yes. The thing is that there aren’t a lot of big name franchises being released here. The Jungle Book is obviously the biggest, but some people will be put off by the CGI-fest (I’m not one of those people). The Huntsman-franchise could become something really cool, but what is the audience for the film? I have absolutely no interest in the film, and I even like the actors and actresses in it. May will be huge, but April (at least in the U.S., seeing as Civil War is released in other territories in late April) isn’t huge.
What film will win April? Sound off in the comments.
