I love the Academy Awards. There’s just something special about that show, even if I don’t think they pick the right winners each and every year. Often times I find myself agreeing with the nominees for the BAFTAs instead, but only the Academy Awards can make me straight-up giddy to see accolades being handed out. The following is a review of the first season of Fuller House.
This television generation has a tough time letting things go. Fans are constantly begging Netflix, Amazon, Yahoo, and Hulu to revive their favorite shows. Sometimes it makes sense, like when Yahoo revived Community while it was still relevant, and sometimes it may be too late to truly recapture what was great about the old show, like with Netflix’s revival of Arrested Development or with the, at best, mediocre six-episode tenth season of The X-Files. With Netflix’s revival of Full House, now titled Fuller House, we may have met the very worst show revival yet. Maybe this can stop the trend. World’s 2nd Best Lawyer – after, what was, a decent episode in the season opener (“Switch”), Better Call Saul delivered a must-watch episode that both tested limitations and moved the overall plot along nicely. In the second episode of the second season, “Cobbler”, Jimmy says goodbye to the infamous Suzuki Esteem, Mike goes back to help a former client, and Jimmy shows us how he decompresses after work. The following is a season review of Love, a Netflix Original show.
Love is the newest Netflix Original show, and it came with a lot of baggage and expectations. Netflix Original shows have mostly been pretty excellent, and the last romantic comedy to come from Netflix (Master of None) was one of the better comedy shows of 2015. Also, Judd Apatow is the co-creator of Love, and therefore I had high expectations. Love is some sort of mixture of HBO’s Girls and Trainwreck, but it isn’t as good as either of them. Welcome back, Jimmy. You’ve been missed. It’s been more than ten months since the final episode of the first season of Better Call Saul aired on AMC. Better Call Saul was my favorite show of 2015, and I even loved its first season more than I loved the first season of the show that preceded it, Breaking Bad. Last year, I reviewed every single episode of Better Call Saul‘s first season, and gave a full season review – this year I plan to repeat that action completely. In the first episode of the second season, “Switch”, we learn what transpired right after Jimmy (played by Bob Odenkirk) started humming Deep Purple‘s “Smoke on the Water” in his yellow Suzuki Esteem. The following is a review of Disney’s Zootopia, also known as Zootropolis in some regions.
I was happy to find out that Zootopia was released one month early in Denmark, much less so to realize that I, at first, had a tough time finding a theater showing it in English near me. Thankfully, I was able to find time to see it in English at the CinemaxX in Copenhagen. Zootopia is the 55th Walt Disney Animation Studios-film, and the first since the release of Big Hero 6 in 2014, which I enjoyed very much.
I had enjoyed the trailers that I had seen from the film, but I was unsure as to whether I would find myself loving a Walt Disney Animation Studios-film for the fourth time in a row. I am happy to say that I enjoyed Zootopia a great deal. Continue reading “REVIEW: Zootopia (2016)”
The following is a review of the first episode of Vinyl, available on HBO and HBO Nordic right now.
Vinyl, created by Martin Scorsese, Terence Winter, Mick Jagger, and Rich Cohen, follows Richie Finestra (played by Bobby Cannavale), a record executive for American Century on the cusp of a massive label buyout deal with a German company, as he tries to manage his crumpling label, his love for music, his family, and his sanity. The pilot episode was just released and it is an excellent piece of television.

The following is a review of Deadpool, a 20th Century Fox film.
This movie has been in development for over a decade. The character was almost scrapped completely due to X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The aforementioned Wolverine-movie drove Ryan Reynolds into the role of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, which wasn’t a great superhero film either. Then something crazy happened. In mid-2014 test footage for a proposed Deadpool-film was leaked online. The fan reaction was insane, and it forced 20th Century Fox’s hands. Suddenly, Deadpool was a reality. And you know what?
