REVIEW: The Neon Demon (2016)

The following is a review of The Neon Demon, a Nicolas Winding Refn film.

I like a lot of Nicolas Winding Refn’s films. I think he’s one of the most talented Danish directors out there. Drive is probably his most well known film, and definitely the film people praise the most. Drive is amazing, and I really like his Pusher-films too. Only God Forgives gets a lot of criticism, and I get where the criticism is coming from, but, ultimately, I thought the good outweighed the bad there. I really didn’t know what to expect from The Neon DemonContinue reading “REVIEW: The Neon Demon (2016)”

Favorite Thespians #6 – Anton Yelchin

This is going to be a tough post for me to write. I had planned for this month’s Favorite Thespian to be Jared Leto, I had even written the entire post in preparation for today. But then something happened. Last night, one of my favorite thespians passed away. I was a big fan of Anton Yelchin, and when I heard that he had died I was in shock. I sat in silence for ten minutes or so. And when someone asked me what was wrong, tears started to rush down my face. I will miss Yelchin. So this month’s Favorite Thespians is in memory of him. REVIEW: The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Conjuring 2 poster

The following is a review of The Conjuring 2, a James Wan film.

I loved the first The Conjuring. James Wan had made another great horror franchise, and it pretty much came out of nowhere. It was magnificent, and it is now regarded as a new horror classic. Needless to say, there was a lot of pressure on the filmmakers to recreate the greatness of the first film. Now, while I don’t think it is as amazing as the original film, The Conjuring 2 is a pretty great horror sequel. Continue reading “REVIEW: The Conjuring 2 (2016)”

REVIEW: The Conjuring (2013)

Conjuring 1 poster

The following is a quick review of The Conjuring, a James Wan film. The review was written on June 9th, 2016.

Right now, James Wan is the most promising horror movie director. He hasn’t really made a lot of wrong moves, or bad movies for that matter. I’ll be seeing the sequel to The Conjuring later today, so I can’t really evaluate The Conjuring 2 yet, but just look at what he has directed. He started the Saw-franchise, as well as the Insidious-franchises, extremely well.

The Conjuring is already a horror franchise, seeing as we already have the first spin-off (2014’s Annabelle) as well as a sequel. We can’t overlook Dead Silence, which has gotten a lot of negative reviews, but I know people that love that film too. James Wan is a terrific horror director, and The Conjuring is the closest thing he has gotten to a true masterpiece. It is terrific.  Continue reading “REVIEW: The Conjuring (2013)”

Is Vinyl a flop? – Testing Television #1

Rockwell Testing TV 2

Finally, under ‘Spotlight’, I highlight a show I highly recommend. As of right now, Testing Television is unscheduled, but it may get a set date every week or month, if the format works.

In this post of Testing Television, I ask whether or not the first season of HBO’s ‘musical’ period drama, Vinyl, was a flop. Also, I highly recommend the great sitcom [Scrubs], one of my favorite comedy shows of all-time. But first, here are the five pieces of television news that you have to know about! Chelsea F.C. 2016/2017: Antonio Conte & John Terry

CFC Trio - AC, JT, RA

The following post was written on June 3rd, 2016.

Chelsea Football Club must learn from the mistakes of 2015/2016. It was an embarrassing season for the club. The club, then managed by club legend José Mourinho, was unable to put up a fight in the first half of the season, and Guus Hiddink steadied the ship in the latter half. Chelsea Football Club finished as the tenth best team in the Premier League just one year after they won the title. Absolutely awful.

Now, Chelsea won’t participate in any continental club competition, and their former manager, José Mourinho, has signed with rivals Manchester United. But there were some highlights at the end of the season. Talents like Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham got some playing time with the first team squad, Antonio Conte signed on to manage Chelsea, and club captain John Terry has extended his stay at Chelsea Football Club.
