If you like Red Dead Redemption 2, then watch these films – Special Features #33

I, like many other gamers, have now spent weeks playing Red Dead Redemption 2 — Rockstar Games’ latest video game masterpiece that you can lose yourself in. While I was playing the game, I thought of many different films, some of which the game includes visual homages to. So, today I want to highlight some films that you should check out if you loved, liked, or even just had fun with Red Dead Redemption 2. Netflix Revives Dream Projects – Special Features #32

Netflix is slowly changing its reputation. For the longest time, people saw Netflix as a dumping ground for original films. But even though Netflix still hasn’t managed to learn exactly how they can promote all of their films on the service, it would be foolish to call Netflix a dumping ground nowadays. Instead, I think it is time to accept the fact that Netflix is a place where certain dreams come true. Maybe not for actors or other hopefuls, but for filmmakers — both those who have lost major studio backing and those who are just starting to make a name for themselves. REVIEW: Halloween (2018)

Theatrical Release Poster – Universal Pictures

The following is a review of 2018’s Halloween — Directed by David Gordon Green.

One of the challenges of being a Star Wars fan is that newcomers to the series, or those unfamiliar with the texts, tend to become confused by the order of the film series. The first film is the fourth episode. The fourth film is the first episode. Sure, the seventh film is the seventh episode, but then you suddenly have to explain where the Disney spin-off films fit in. It can be fun, but it can also be tiring. Halloween fans know this problem all too well. Continue reading “REVIEW: Halloween (2018)”

Remakes at the Oscars – Special Features #31

This year, Bradley Cooper is giving us his highly anticipated directorial debut with his version of A Star is Born. Notice how I said ‘his version?’ Good, well, the fact of the matter is that Cooper’s A Star is Born is the third remake released of the 1937 William Wellman romance drama. So, what does that mean for its Oscar chances? Can a remake be nominated for, or even win, the biggest categories at the Oscars? Well, let’s see.  Continue reading “Remakes at the Oscars – Special Features #31”

REVIEWS: Rewatching the Mission: Impossible Films

I know I’m a little bit late to it, but I’m finally seeing Mission: Impossible – Fallout in theaters today. So, last night I decided to marathon the five films that came before it. I ended up taking some notes, and, in this article, I’ve presented them here as reviews or smaller bite-sized mini-reviews, along with an estimated review score for each of the previous films except for Rogue Nation, which I reviewed in 2015. Black Panther’s Chances at the Oscars – Special Features #28

Last year — in one of the first Special Features-articles — I wrote about Wonder Woman‘s chances at the Oscars, and it was probably that article that made me confident that I could write these types of articles about pretty much any blockbuster film. So, today, I want to continue that trend by writing about another hugely popular superhero film that has broken many box office records and won the hearts of critics and audiences — Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. Did The Academy Just Ruin the Oscars Ceremony? – Special Features #27

I imagine that AMPAS President John Bailey is currently doing his best Gob Bluth impression in his living room and saying “I’ve made a huge mistake.” Cut to black, roll credits, and play Simon & Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence, because the fact of the matter is that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences just made a lot of people mad.
