Green Book and The Greatest Beer Run Ever-director Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky is a comedy about three lifelong friends (played by Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) who routinely get out of situations, meetings, life events, responsibilities, and the like, both from family, significant others, and their jobs, by using a created imaginary friend — the titular character (played by John Cena) — and inventing some circumstance that requires their presence, thus justifying their absence from whatever — to them — bothersome scenario gets in their way.

The following is a review of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile — Directed by Joe Berlinger.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile comes from Joe Berlinger, the director of Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes and is based on Elizabeth Kloepfer’s book The Phantom Prince about her relationship with the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy. Lily Collins stars as Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Kendall, a single mother who has met the perfect guy. He has a nice Volkswagen, he’s nice to her and her kid, and he is fairly attractive.
Zac Efron plays this man who seems to be too good to be true. That’s because he is. Because Efron is Ted Bundy, the man who we know as one of the most infamous serial killers in American history. As authorities catch up to Bundy, Liz becomes caught in a whirlwind with no sense of up or down. Liz doesn’t know if she is being played, or if the system is putting her new man behind bars unjustly. It’s the end of the year, so let’s give it a go with a Christmas analogy. Imagine you’re about to open this great, big present covered with gorgeous wrapping paper. But as you rip off the wrapping paper, and open the box that contains your gift, you start to sense the disappointment as the great, big gift is much smaller than the box and the wrapping paper made it seem.
What did you get? Oh, it’s this neat little plaque with some inspirational quote on it. It’s about as generic as possible. That’s The Greatest Showman. A good-hearted hoodwink so disappointing that you question why you ever got excited at all. Continue reading “REVIEW: The Greatest Showman (2017)”

The following is a quick review of Dan Mazer’s Dirty Grandpa.
In 1975, Robert De Niro – my favorite actor of his generation – won an Academy Award for his performance as Vito Corleone in The Godfather Part II. In 1981, De Niro won his second Academy Award for his performance as Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. Then in 2016, one of De Niro’s worst films was released. Let’s talk about Dirty Grandpa.

I’ve been cautiously excited for Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising ever since I first heard about it. Neighbors was such a surprise hit in 2014, I thought it was so much fun. But time and time again we see bad comedy sequels. Neighbors 2 definitely isn’t bad, and it is worth seeing for fans of the first film, but the theatrical release version of Neighbors 2 wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be.
