REVIEW: Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

The following is a review of Avengers: Infinity War — Directed by The Russo Brothers.

“To challenge them is to court death,” the Other, a servant, said to the ‘Mad Titan’ Thanos in the mid-credits scene of 2012’s The Avengers, which was the culmination of the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Four years earlier, at the end of 2008’s Iron Man, the mysterious Nick Fury kicked-off the cinematic universe by telling Tony Stark about the ‘Avengers Initiative.’ A lot has happened since then — misfits and unlikely heroes have teamed up to save foreign worlds, a teenage wall-crawler has protected his neighborhood, and long-lasting friendships have been torn apart by the actions of a brainwashed super-soldier. Crazy Early 91st Academy Awards Predictions – Special Features #16

Okay, I know. This is insane. The 90th Academy Awards haven’t even been held, and I’ve only seen like ten or eleven films from 2018 at this point. But I love writing about the awards season, but, to be honest with you, I find the annual best picture frontrunner backlash to be draining. So, therefore, I think it’s much easier for me to write about next year’s awards season. And don’t you worry, I have a pretty good idea of what is coming out this year. So, without further ado, let’s get to it. Continue reading “Crazy Early 91st Academy Awards Predictions – Special Features #16”

REVIEW: Black Panther (2018)

Theatrical Release Poster – Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The following is a review of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther — Directed by Ryan Coogler.

We’ve seen plenty of superhero films before. We’ve seen superhero films with social commentary before. We’ve had people of color as the leads of comic book films before — you need only look at the forgotten Blade-trilogy, which definitely deserves a rewatch, to figure that out. Continue reading “REVIEW: Black Panther (2018)”

Box Office Predictions – February 2018

Black Panther (Disney)

This month Box Office Predictions is all about the next big event movie — Marvel Studios’ Black Panther — which has followed in the footsteps of 2016’s Deadpool by opening in early February. Will it be as big of a success as the Merc with a Mouth’s first film was? Let’s talk about it.  Continue reading “Box Office Predictions – February 2018”

REVIEW: Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Civil War Poster
Theatrical Release Poster – Marvel Studios – Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

The following is a spoiler-free review of Captain America: Civil War, a Anthony & Joe Russo film. The reviewed film was seen in IMAX 3D.

This is a spoiler-free review, and the review thus won’t go into anything else than what is in the trailers. If, however, I need to mention a location, plot-point, or a character that could spoil something in the film, then I’ll only hint at it.

I’ve wanted to see this story on the big screen for a very, very long time. It’s the one story I’ve always wanted them to make into a film, ever since I first read the comic book crossover from 2007 (Mark Millar’s Civil War). But to be perfectly honest with you, Captain America: Civil War is so much better than the comic book.

Marvelous Monday #33 – Phase Three’s Missing Directors (Pt. 2 of 2)

I'm Jeffrey Rex's Marvelous Monday

Marvel Studios’ first two phases are over, and now we wait for the beginning of Marvel Studios’ Phase Three, which begins with Captain America: Civil War. I suggested some directors for two of Marvel’s Phase Three films (Thor: Ragnarok & Black Panther) on last week’s Marvelous Monday. This week I focus on Captain Marvel and Inhumans – let’s try to fill those director’s chairs! Continue reading “Marvelous Monday #33 – Phase Three’s Missing Directors (Pt. 2 of 2)”
