REVIEW: True Detective – “The Western Book of the Dead”

True Detective Review

The following is a spoiler-free review of True Detective: Season 2 – Episode 1.

It’s that time of year – True Detective is back on HBO. I never wrote a full review of the first season, or any of the episodes, but I really loved it. When I was handing out ‘awards’ and praise in my annual IJR Awards back in December, Matthew McConaughey was my TV Actor of 2014 – and the first season made it my TV Show of 2014. Now the anthology crime drama is back.   Continue reading “REVIEW: True Detective – “The Western Book of the Dead””

REVIEW: Entourage (2015)

Warner Bros. Pictures poster for Entourage (2015)

The following is a spoiler-free review of Entourage (Movie)

The original HBO show was a guilty pleasure of mine. Naturally, I was interested in seeing the gang back together. I was worried, however, that this would just ruin the ending of the show that I really enjoyed. Sadly, that is what it did. Continue reading “REVIEW: Entourage (2015)”

REVIEW: Jurassic World (2015)

Universal Pictures poster for Jurassic World

The following is a spoiler-free review of Jurassic World (2015).

It’s been 22 years since the original Steven Spielberg film, and it has been a bumpy ride for the franchise ever since. I, personally, enjoyed The Lost World – but understood why people disliked it. Jurassic Park III was, for most people, a disappointment. How good is Jurassic World? I think it’s actually very good. Continue reading “REVIEW: Jurassic World (2015)”

CLASSIC REVIEW: Jurassic Park (1993)

Universal Pictures poster for ‘Jurassic Park’

The following is a Classic Review of Jurassic Park.

Way back in 1990 the late, great Michael Crichton’s Jurassic Park novel was released, three years later Steven Spielberg had directed its cinematic adaptation, and suddenly it was one of the most celebrated blockbusters in cinematic history. The film would eventually spawn sequels, and the franchise has become a healthy part of western pop culture.  Continue reading “CLASSIC REVIEW: Jurassic Park (1993)”

REVIEW: EX_MACHINA (2015)

The following is a review of EX_MACHINA — Directed by Alex Garland.

This is a film that I have been really excited about for a long time. The trailer just hooked me immediately. Though, for some unknown reason, I don’t believe it was ever released in theaters in Denmark. Therefore I had to wait until I got my hands on the Blu-Ray. Thankfully, the long wait was worth it. This is a cerebral science-fiction classic-in-the-making. Continue reading “REVIEW: EX_MACHINA (2015)”

REVIEW: Tomorrowland (2015)

Walt Disney Pictures poster

The following is a spoiler-free review of Disney’s Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson.

Sometimes you come across an original idea that blows you away. Sometimes a great director and a great project can alter the direction Hollywood is going in. Brad Bird is a great director, Tomorrowland is a great project, but it is not that kind of film. If you go in looking for greatness, you’ll be disappointed.

REVIEW: Mad Max – Fury Road (2015)

Warner Bros. Pictures poster for Mad Max: Fury Road

The following is a review of Mad Max: Fury Road — Directed by George Miller.

Thirty years ago the last Mad Max-film, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, was released. Although all three films are beloved by fans, it is still somewhat of a cult franchise. Sure, very few people realize just how much the original Mad Max films gave to its genre. Yes, some people have surely understimated the impact of the film series. But the franchise is, by no means, a film that young audiences hold dear right now. Nevertheless, you don’t get many better dystopian action films than Mad Max: Road Warrior. However, I am pleased to report that the latest Mad Max-sequel, Mad Max: Fury Road, actually tops it. George Miller’s latest film is absolutely terrific.

CLASSIC REVIEW: The Godfather (1972)

Theatrical Release poster by Paramount Pictures

Way back in 1969, Mario Puzo’s novel The Godfather was published – not long thereafter Paramount Pictures had the film rights, and were to adapt it into a movie. Sergio Leone passed on the film, as did Peter Bogdanovich – finally Francis Ford Coppola signed on, and the rest is history.

REVIEW: Avengers – Age of Ultron (2015)

Marvel Studios poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron

The following is a spoiler free review of Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The original review was more positive, but I still like the film.

Marvel’s The Avengers is one of the biggest films for comic book nerds across the globe. But with the incredibly successful first Avengers outing in mind, could Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige surprise and wow us again? Well, yes and no. Whedon makes some superhero movie-sins, but does give us visual spectacle.

REVIEW: Daredevil – Season One

I'm Jeffrey Rex - Daredevil Season OneMarvel’s Daredevil is a Netflix show created by Drew Goddard and developed by Steven S. DeKnight which has begun a Netflix adventure for the Disney owned Marvel Cinematic Universe. Make no mistake, Matt Murdock and the rest of the Defenders exist in the same universe as the Avengers – with the Chitauri invasion being hinted at once or twice during this first season.
