Please be aware that cinematic release dates are based on the Danish theaters. Therefore, films from 2015 that premiere in 2016 in Denmark won’t be considered for the I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards, and after some reconsidering only 2015 films released in Denmark in 2015 are eligible for my top ten films of 2015. The following is a spoiler-free review of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, directed by J. J. Abrams.

Set three decades after Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens follows the scavenging Rey (played by Daisy Ridley); the best pilot in the Resistance, Poe Dameron (played by Oscar Isaac); and a troubled stormtrooper, Finn (played by John Boyega), as they are suddenly thrown into a galaxy-wide search for someone or something… That is all I’ll say about the general plot of the film, which does feature the original three characters that we know and love. REVIEW: The Ridiculous Six (2015)

The following is a review of the Netflix Original Film “The Ridiculous Six”, a Frank Coraci & Adam Sandler film.

Netflix has been great at releasing binge- and stream-worthy content for years. House of Cards, Virunga, and Beasts of No Nation are examples of Netflix bringing excellent original content to screens around the world. Netflix has slipped up before, not every season, documentary or stand-up special works, but I believe that The Ridiculous Six might be the worst thing they’ve ever released as original content. REVIEW: Creed (2015)

The following is a review of ‘Creed’, a Ryan Coogler film.

The boxing saga that is the story of Rocky Balboa is immensely popular, with it having been relevant and present since 1976. Interestingly, we’ve seen a Rocky-film in every decade since John G. Avildsen and Sylvester Stallone first gave the Italian Stallion an opportunity against Apollo Creed in the 1977 Academy Awards Best Picture winner. Creed is a soft reboot of the franchise set 39 years after the events of Rocky, and I was surprised to feel that it might be the best film in the Rocky Balboa-saga. REVIEW: Jessica Jones – Season One (2015)

The following is a season one review of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, a Netflix Original show.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones is a Netflix Original show created by Melissa Rosenberg, of Twilight and Dexter-fame, which continues the Netflix adventure for the Disney owned Marvel Universe. Set in the same world as Marvel’s Daredevil and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jessica Jones continues our journey to The Defenders mini-series. And while Jones’ villain, Kilgrave, wasn’t as complex as Wilson Fisk was in Marvel’s Daredevil, Kilgrave was much scarier. CLASSIC REVIEW: Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983)

The following is a classic review of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, a Richard Marquand film. Expect spoilers.

1983 – Return of the Jedi – the end of the original trilogy. While Empire Strikes Back is definitely the best film, Return of the Jedi was my favorite film when I was younger. And there is a simple reason why this film, though not the best of the three, is remembered so fondly by so many people. Return of the Jedi is the most satisfying Star Wars film. REVIEW: Master of None – Season One

The following is a review of the first season of Netflix’s Master of None, created by Aziz Ansari & Alan Yang.

Whether you know Aziz Ansari from stand-up, from Scrubs as ‘Big’ Ed Dhandapani, or as Tom Haverford in Parks and Recreation you should know that he is a really funny guy. Now, after having worked with Netflix on Buried Alive and Live at Madison Square Garden, he is premiering his first TV-show with him as the main character as a Netflix Original Show. The following is a review of ‘Attack the Block’, a Joe Cornish film.

I am going to level with you here: Yes, the only reason why I went back and watched this film was because of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. John Boyega, one of the new stars of said Star Wars-film, had his feature film debut in 2011’s Attack the Block, and went on to win the Black Reel Award for ‘Best Actor’ for his performance in the film. The following is a review of Project Greenlight’s ‘The Leisure Class’, an HBO film by Jason Mann.

Project Greenlight is an HBO documentary show about the process of filmmaking, in which its producers grant a huge opportunity to a writer or director. Jason Mann won the 2015 season of Project Greenlight as a director, and he even got to film his own script with a budget of $3 million. By watching the documentary show we were led to believe that every thing was wrong from the get-go. While it does seem like the show was presented more as a reality program than a documentary show, the final product is as problematic as the production processes presented in Project Greenlight. REVIEW: SPECTRE (2015)

The following is an updated* review of Eon Productions’ SPECTRE, a Sam Mendes film.

James Bond – Agent 007 – is a legendary film character from a legendary film franchise. A franchise that, through the good and the bad, has been obligatory viewing for all film enthusiasts. Daniel Craig’s run of films has been rather memorable up to this point. The fantastic Casino Royale was a fresh modern update of the franchise, for various reasons Quantum of Solace was a disappointing follow-up, whereas the thrilling Skyfall brought the Craig-era back on track. Unfortunately, though decent, SPECTRE — the 4th Craig-era Bond-film — doesn’t stand out as one of the best in the franchise.
