Rogue One is (almost) here! – Dagobah Day #24

Dagobah Day - 2016

The long wait for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is (almost) over. I don’t know if any of you know this, but the very first Dagobah Day post was about Rogue One. I was really optimistic about this film back then, even though I didn’t like Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. I was excited about seeing a huge Star Wars fan – who just happens to be a talented film director – get to make the film he wants to make.

Is it going to be a great Star Wars film? Who knows, but I’m still optimistic about the film. I know there was a lot of talk about extensive reshoots, but reshoots aren’t all that odd in the blockbuster filmmaking business. You always make room for reshoots.

Okay, so, today I want to talk about what I’ll be doing in preparation for Rogue One, and when I’ll be seeing the film. But first, we’ve got the first reactions from the press preview, as well as George Lucas’ thoughts on the film to go through.

Sure, we should take reactions to a 28-minute preview of the film with a grain of salt, but most of the people that have spoken online about the preview were really positive. Gareth Edwards also recently revealed what George Lucas’ reaction was, and apparently the creator really liked the movie. Great news. Good for you, Gareth.

I’ll be seeing the film on Wednesday the 14th of December, and I’m pretty excited about it. In preparation, I suspect that I’ll be rewatching all of the Star Wars films, but, at the very least, I think I’m definitely going to rewatch the Prequels and A New Hope.

Also, I have to recommend James Luceno’s canon book Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel. I’m not all the way through the book yet, but I’ve liked what I’ve gotten so far. I think it’s a really cool book that could really be great to have read prior to seeing Edwards’ film, as you do get a lot of backstory for Orson Krennic and Galen Erso.

That’s all from me on this month’s edition of Dagobah Day. I really hope you all love Rogue One, and I hope it proves that spin-off films can work in the Star Wars universe. Keep your eyes peeled on the site this Wednesday, when I’ll be releasing my final opening weekend box office prediction for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
