The following list contains spoilers for films from 2014.

It’s week five of the Heroes and Villains period of Top Ten Tuesday, and that brings us to 2014. 2014 was a truly great year for villains, and some of the villains on this list are some of my favorites of all-time. Do note that these characters aren’t solely ranked on how evil their actions are. Without further ado, here are the top ten movie villains of 2014.

#10 – Peter Van Houten – The Fault in Our Stars

If one of your heroes is Peter Van Houten, well, then don’t meet your heroes, I guess.

#9 – Lord Business – The LEGO Movie

Oh man, don’t let this guy control the Kragle!

#8 – Teddy Sanders – Neighbors

Teddy is the President of Delta Psi Beta and a terrible neighbor. While I do think he’s a good and fun villain, I love Efron’s friendly scenes with Rogen the most.

#7 – Magneto – X-Men: Days of Future Past

I think Magneto is easily the best character in the X-Men film franchise, and that’s mainly because he’s just a really compelling villain.

#6 – Amy Dunne – Gone Girl

Amy might be the scariest and most unpredictable villain on this list. Just looking at the gif above makes me uneasy.

#5 – Koba – Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Koba is a really fun villain to watch, but just a really bad ape (yes, I almost typed ‘person’).

#4 – The Winter Soldier – Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It’s still surprising to me that the Captain America film series is the best series of films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the reasons why is the relationship that Captain America has with this villain.

#3 – “David” – The Guest

For a little while there it looked like David was the protagonist of the film, but you only watch the first half of the film from his ‘perspective.’ He’s a great mysterious unstoppable force.

#2 – Terence Fletcher – Whiplash

Terence Fletcher is everyone’s favorite evil teacher with somewhat good intentions.

#1 – Louis Bloom – Nightcrawler

Lou Bloom – one of the most memorable villainous protagonists of this decade (maybe even of all-time) – had to be on this list. I remember when me and my family watched Nightcrawler on opening night in a movie theater. No one else was around, so if you missed this film, then watch it immediately.

Who was your favorite villain from the 2014 films? Sound off in the comments!
