They just released the first full official trailer for the first anthology film in the Star Wars universe – Rogue One: A Star Wars Story! They released a celebration reel back when Star Wars Celebration Europe was happening, and before that they released an official teaser trailer, which I reviewed here. But now we have our first full trailer, and it’s glorious. First, let’s take a look at what was said in the trailer:
SAW GERRERA (Forest Whitaker): The world is coming undone. Imperial flags reign across the galaxy.
UNKNOWN REBEL (Alistair Petrie): Can you be trusted without your shackles?
JYN ERSO (Felicity Jones): Let’s just get this over with, shall we?
MON MOTHMA (Genevieve O’Reilly): We have a mission for you. A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know how to destroy it.
CASSIAN ANDOR (Diego Luna): If you’re really doing this, I want to help.
JYN ERSO (Felicity Jones): Good?
CASSIAN ANDOR (Diego Luna): Good.
CASSIAN ANDOR (Diego Luna): I’ve been recruiting for the Rebellion for a long time.
BAZE MALBUS (Jiang Wen): They destroyed our home!
BAZE MALBUS (Jiang Wen): I fight the Empire now.
CHIRRUT ÎMWE (Donnie Yen): I fear nothing. All is as the Force wills it.
K-2SO (Alan Tudyk): The Captain says you are a friend. I will not kill you.
JYN ERSO (Felicity Jones): Thanks!
JYN ERSO (Felicity Jones): There isn’t much time. Every day they grow stronger.
K-2SO (Alan Tudyk): There is a 97.6% chance of failure.
CASSIAN ANDOR (Diego Luna): He means well.
JYN ERSO (Felicity Jones): This is our chance to make a real difference. Are you with me?
CASSIAN ANDOR (Diego Luna): All the way.
Darth Vader (James Earl Jones): *Breathes*
Let’s just talk about the quotes above. The only one I’m unsure of is the ‘recruiting for the Rebellion’-comment. I think it’s Cassian Andor, but it may be someone else. Overall, I really love these comments. K-2SO sounds just like I wanted him to – it sounds like he’s not as timid as C-3PO, but he is just as honest. He sounds a bit like HK-47. The other note I took for the quotes was that Chirrut Îmwe’s quote is really powerful. I like what I’m hearing, but as you’ll see below I love what I’m seeing.
Gorgeous. As you see in the entire trailer, they’re really showing off how well this film is shot, and how many worlds we’ll go to.
The U-Wing on Yavin IV. Very cool shot. I think that’s Alistair Petrie’s character in the foreground. But I may be wrong.
Absolutely beautiful. It looks like something out of Ridley Scott’s The Martian.
The Death Star right next to a planet. That’s just a really scary picture.
Orson Krennic looks really upset here. Speculation: maybe he just got an earful from Vader or the Emperor. Something is clearly wrong.
This has the potential to be the best looking Star Wars film since The Empire Strikes Back, or maybe ever. This shot, especially, I can’t wait to see in the film this December.
A limping Jyn Erso walking towards a Tie Fighter. That’s just a great shot. It’s probably not an Imperial soldier, but just a Rebel pilot coming to save her in the Imperial starfighter (I’m thinking Bodhi Rook, – that’s Riz Ahmed’s character – seeing as he is, supposedly, a former Imperial pilot).
Darth Vader – A Dark Lord of the Sith. This was what we were waiting for, and if this doesn’t get you excited, then I don’t know what will. This is so cool. We don’t necessarily need to see a lot more of him in the trailers. These little teases are perfect – we need to save a lot for the film itself.
I really like this trailer. Even though it’s close to the same length as the teaser trailer, I am completely satisfied with this ‘first’ full trailer. It sums up the basics of the plot again. We get some images to keep us excited for the next couple of months, and they finally reveal Darth Vader to the public – without showing too much!
We’re probably getting one more full trailer around November, and we’ll probably see more scenes with Vader to really make the casual fans aware of when this film takes place. But please have Mads Mikkelsen’s Galen Erso in the next trailer, and please don’t kill him off quickly like Max Von Sydow’s character was in The Force Awakens.
What did you think of the trailer?
