REVIEW: Mozart in the Jungle – Season Two (2015)

Mozart in the Jungle - Review

The following is a review of the second season of Amazon Studio’s Mozart in the Jungle, available on Amazon Video, and on Viaplay in Denmark.

When Mozart in the Jungle won the Golden Globe for ‘Best Series – Musical or Comedy’ in 2016, I have to admit that I was a bit stunned. I had never heard of the show, but I was intrigued by it when I saw Gael García Bernal grab his award for ‘Best Actor – Musical or Comedy’. Bernal was the guy I chose to binge-watch both seasons in three days for, and season two of Mozart in the Jungle really relies heavily on his performance and character. Mozart in the Jungle: Season Two is really, really good. Continue reading “REVIEW: Mozart in the Jungle – Season Two (2015)”

REVIEW: Mozart in the Jungle – Season One (2014)

Mozart in the Jungle - Review

The following is a review of the first season of Amazon Studio’s Mozart in the Jungle, available on Amazon Video, and on Viaplay in Denmark.

Based on the memoir of Blair Tindall, Mozart in the Jungle is a ‘dramedy’ featuring beautiful classical music. Set in New York City, the show follows Hailey Rutledge (Lola Kirke), a young and talented oboist, who is suddenly given an opportunity to shine on one of the grandest stages of them all. Meanwhile, it is a time of massive change as a legendary conductor (Malcolm McDowell) makes way for a new, far more eccentric, edition (Gael García Bernal) at the Avery Fisher Hall.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Mozart in the Jungle – Season One (2014)”

REVIEW: Master of None – Season One

Master of None Review

The following is a review of the first season of Netflix’s Master of None, created by Aziz Ansari & Alan Yang.

Whether you know Aziz Ansari from stand-up, from Scrubs as ‘Big’ Ed Dhandapani, or as Tom Haverford in Parks and Recreation you should know that he is a really funny guy. Now, after having worked with Netflix on Buried Alive and Live at Madison Square Garden, he is premiering his first TV-show with him as the main character as a Netflix Original Show. Just like Scrubs or Parks and Recreation it is a fun sitcom, but it also works as a social satire – Netflix has struck gold. Continue reading “REVIEW: Master of None – Season One”

REVIEW: True Detective – “Omega Station”

True Detective Review

The following is a spoiler review of the final episode of True Detective Season Two

This is the end. We’ve reached the final episode of the second season of True Detective. Though it has not been as good as the first season, I still had high hopes for the finale. Did we end on a high note, or did this season bite off more than it could chew? Continue reading “REVIEW: True Detective – “Omega Station””

REVIEW: True Detective – “Black Maps and Motel Rooms”

True Detective Review

The following is a review of the penultimate episode of the second season of True Detective, beware of spoilers.

We’ve finally reached the penultimate episode of the season. An episode which is, in my opinion, the most important episode since the season-opener. The penultimate episode had to make us care, it had to keep us entertained, and it had to convince us to worry about the characters for the very last episode. Though this season has been hit-and-miss, somehow this episode managed to tie up enough loose ends – as well as bring a gut-punching cliffhanger – to make you truly care about the end of the season. REVIEW: Wet Hot American Summer – First Day of Camp (2015)

First Day of Camp

“Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” is available on Netflix and functions as a prequel to the 2001 comedy “Wet Hot American Summer”

Let me preface this by saying that I didn’t watch the original film when it was first released. Somehow I had never heard of the film until a few years ago. Before watching the film I considered it a potential hidden gem featuring some of my favorite actors. Then I watched it, and I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked the film – but I never loved it. Somehow this prequel show made me a believer. Continue reading “REVIEW: Wet Hot American Summer – First Day of Camp (2015)”

REVIEW: True Detective – “Church In Ruins”

True Detective Review

The following is a review of “Church In Ruins” from the second season of True Detective, beware of spoilers.

“Church In Ruins” had quite a job to do for the season to still be appealing. Most critics have felt that this season has had a tough time in comparisons with its predecessor. It hasn’t been as interesting or exciting, nor as strong in performance, writing or direction. This episode had to have strong performances, and it also had to move towards an end for the season. Thankfully, “Church In Ruins” is the best episode of season 2 yet. Continue reading “REVIEW: True Detective – “Church In Ruins””

REVIEW: True Detective – “Other Lives”

True Detective Review

The following is a review of “Other Lives” from the second season of True Detective, beware of spoilers.

Just like last season of True Detective, this season has a point in which the show reboots itself. A point where the case is reopened, and all answers from the first half of the season are called into question by our main characters. This was the episode that rebooted the second season of True Detective – and it did so in an interesting fashion. Continue reading “REVIEW: True Detective – “Other Lives””

REVIEW: True Detective – “Maybe Tomorrow”

True Detective ReviewThe following is a review of “Maybe Tomorrow” from the second season of True Detective, beware of spoilers.
