The following is a retro review of Star Trek, a J. J. Abrams film.

I wasn’t a fan of Star Trek before 2009. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. J. J. Abrams made me a Star Trek fan. I’ve since gone back and seen some of the shows, but this film is still what made me a fan, and still my favorite thing in the franchise. 2009’s Star Trek is fast-paced fun. It’s exhilarating. REVIEW: The Neon Demon (2016)

The following is a review of The Neon Demon, a Nicolas Winding Refn film.

I like a lot of Nicolas Winding Refn’s films. I think he’s one of the most talented Danish directors out there. Drive is probably his most well known film, and definitely the film people praise the most. Drive is amazing, and I really like his Pusher-films too. Only God Forgives gets a lot of criticism, and I get where the criticism is coming from, but, ultimately, I thought the good outweighed the bad there. REVIEW: Game of Thrones – Season Six (2016)

The following is a review of the sixth season of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Expect spoilers for the show in this review.

This is the first time that I am ever reviewing a season of HBO’s Game of Thrones, but I’ve been following the show since the beginning. I hadn’t read any of the books prior to the first season, but I have since read the first book in George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire-series of novels.

The fact that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was in the show, was what made me interested in the show, and his character is still one of my favorites. The first season was excellent, and every season has just been so good. Then the fifth season aired, and a lot of people were underwhelmed. REVIEW: Preacher – “South Will Rise Again”

The following is a review of the fifth episode of ‘Preacher’, available on AMC in the United States and on Viaplay in Denmark. Expect spoilers for the episode.

In the fifth episode of the first season of Preacher (“South Will Rise Again”), Tulip (played by Ruth Negga) has enough of Jesse’s goodness, Cassidy (played by Joseph Gilgun) gets a bit too close to Tulip, and our good preacher, Jesse (played by Dominic Cooper), maybe uses his ‘power of persuasion’ a bit too much, before the angels finally confront our hero.

REVIEW: Silicon Valley – Season One (2014)

The following is a quick review of the first season of HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Silicon Valley follows Richard Hendricks (played by Thomas Middleditch), a shy and nervous programmer, who works at a huge company called Hooli. Meanwhile, he is also developing a project of his own, ‘Pied Piper’, in an incubator run by Erlich Bachman (played by T. J. Miller).

After Hendricks one day shares his work with some of his Hooli colleagues, he, and Pied Piper, soon become the object of a bidding war between Hooli’s CEO, Gavin Belson (played by Matt Ross), and the tech investor Peter Gregory (played by Christopher Evan Welch).

REVIEW: Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

The following is a review of Independence Day: Resurgence, a Roland Emmerich film.

It’s been twenty years since the release of the original Independence Day. That film from 1996 is a nice, fun little popcorn film. I have a lot of fun with it, even if it isn’t considered a ‘great film’. That said, I was really pessimistic when I sat down in the theater to watch the sequel, Resurgence. I had heard that Will Smith wasn’t in the sequel, and that Mae Whitman had been replaced by Maika Monroe. I was worried, but I wanted to like the film. Now I’ve seen it, and it’s even worse than I had feared.

The Night Of, which is based on Peter Moffat’s Criminal Justice, follows Nasir “Naz” Khan (played by Riz Ahmed), a Pakistani-American college student, on the night that he is arrested for the murder of a young woman (played by Sofia Black-D’Elia). REVIEW: The Fundamentals of Caring (2016)

The following is a quick review of The Fundamentals of Caring, directed by Rob Burnett.

Based on the novel, The Revised Fundamentals of Caring, by Jonathan Evison, the Netflix original film, The Fundamentals of Caring follows Ben (played by Paul Rudd), a caregiver, who has been hired to take care of Trevor (played by Craig Roberts), who suffers from Duchennes muscular dystrophy.

In the fourth episode of Preacher (“Monster Swamp”), Jesse (played by Dominic Cooper) tries to get people to go to church. Tulip (played by Ruth Negga) runs into Cassidy (played by Joseph Gilgun), who is trying to trick the cowboys/angels/clones. And we, finally get to see more of Odin Quincannon (played by Jackie Earle Haley).
