This Sunday, we are finally going to see what film will become the winner of the Best Picture category at the 89th Academy Awards. My favorite film of 2016 – La La Land – is the current favorite to win in the central category, and therefore I should be excited to see if it wins or not. The following is a review of O. J.: Made in America – Directed by Ezra Edelman
Orenthal James Simpson – a USC Trojans legend, Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee, movie star, and a convicted felon. In 1985, 5-time Pro Bowl and 1-time NFL MVP O. J. Simpson, a former running back for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
He had become an actor, and in a few years he would become a movie star with the popular The Naked Gun movie series. Ten years later, in 1995, Simpson was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife and her friend. O. J.: Made in America tells the story of O. J. Every year we get upset about something or someone being left off of the Academy Awards nomination list. Now, I still haven’t gotten a chance to see La La Land as it hasn’t been released in Denmark yet. So it’s tough for me to really say if La La Land deserves every nomination it got. But it did get a record-tying 14 nominations for the Academy Awards, which only Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s All About Eve and James Cameron’s Titanic have gotten before. I love the Academy Awards. There’s just something special about that show, even if I don’t think they pick the right winners each and every year. Often times I find myself agreeing with the nominees for the BAFTAs instead, but only the Academy Awards can make me straight-up giddy to see accolades being handed out. The Revenant was my original pick for my most anticipated film of the 2015 Oscar-season. I was looking forward to the stylistic approach, DiCaprio’s performance, and to see Iñarritu and Lubezki work together again.
