For most of this young century, Point Break director Kathryn Bigelow has dedicated her filmmaking career to these intensely political thrillers that have sparked a lot of discussion at the time of release (e.g., The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, Detroit). Now, eight years after the release of Detroit, Bigelow is back with another political thriller with its finger on the pulse of America and the world with Netflix’s A House of Dynamite, an occasionally thrilling and terrifying apocalyptic triptych about a fictional immediate panicked response to a single nuclear missile headed for America.

REVIEW: Morbius (2022)

The first time I heard about ‘Morbius the living vampire’ was in an episode of the iconic 1990s Spider-Man animated series which I absolutely adored as a kid. I don’t remember too much about individual episodes nowadays, but I do remember seeing him with Blade and Spider-Man. However, due to awful word-of-mouth and a general lack of faith in Sony’s villain-led Spider-Man spin-off films (due to the release of the first Venom film), I didn’t immediately feel the urge to see this film when it was in theaters. Now I have finally had the chance to see it from the comfort of my own home, and, I’m sorry to say, it is pretty much exactly as messy as I feared it could be.

REVIEW: Chernobyl (2019 – Mini-Series)

The following is a review of the HBO / Sky Atlantic Limited Series Chernobyl — Created by Craig Mazin.

While Game of Thrones, HBO’s proudest possession, was coming to an end amid fan uproar and disappointment, the co-writer of The Hangover Parts II and III, Craig Mazin, was quietly releasing his masterpiece to the world on the very same television network. Released alongside an in-depth after-the-episode podcast, Chernobyl is, now that it has ended, starting to earn the acclaim and popularity that it deserves.
