REVIEW: Justice League (2017)

The following is a review of Justice League – Directed by Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon.

A couple of months ago, I was looking through some old pieces of paper that I had found in a drawer. In it, I found a membership certificate for some sort of Danish Batman-fan club, and it had my name on it (actually, it was misspelled). This certificate was from when I was just around the age of six or seven.

I am telling you this to provide you with a bit of context for my own background and my love for DC Comics. I’m one of those kids who would hunker down and read Superman comics in the back of the store, while my dad was talking to the comic book store owner. Did I read Marvel Comics too? Ben Affleck Won’t Direct ‘The Batman’

When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out and it was getting really bad reviews, I asked myself if I should be worried about the future of the DC Cinematic Universe. I was worried but I calmed myself by reminding me that Suicide Squad could be great (it definitely wasn’t), that the Wonder Woman film could be cool (I still think it can be), and that everyone should be excited for The Batman because of Ben Affleck’s involvement. Now Affleck is no longer directing the film and I’m officially panicking.

Detective Comics Saturday is back! On the first Saturday of every month you’ll now see me discuss topics related to DC Comics or the DC Cinematic Universe.

I’m so happy to be back writing about everything DC! Now, after the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we have to readjust and get ready for the next film in the DC Cinematic Universe (I refuse to call it the DCEU) – David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. But with two WB/DC films having been released – with both of them receiving mixed reviews (to put it nicely) – we might also have to rethink the future of the universe. REVIEW: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

The following is a spoiler-free review of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a Zack Snyder film.

Batman v Superman is finally here! Comic book fans have been wanting to see this film for decades, and moviegoers have been waiting for a proper sequel to Man of Steel since 2013. Somehow this film had to appease both audiences. My complicated history with Man of Steel has been heavily documented on this blog, and I don’t think I’ve really loved a Zack Snyder-film since his remake of Dawn of the Dead.

Needless to say, I was really worried about this film. Superman used to be one of my favorite comic book characters, and Batman still is one of my favorites – I want them to be given a proper treatment on the big screen. I just wanted to like it – that is all I wanted from this film. But, to be perfectly honest, I did not. The following is a top 10 list of the best films of the 1990s

The 1990s were very important for the evolution of major motion pictures. It gave us the Disney Renaissance (1989-1999), as well as Pixar – the greatest computer animation film studio in the world. Meanwhile, the advancements made in the field of CGI also made some of the most important 1990s films possible.

Do note that this is my personal top 10 list of the 1990s. Your favorite film may be missing, and I may have loved that film, but, ultimately, this is just a top 10. These decade-lists are the very hardest lists to write, for there are so many films that I had to leave out. If there are films on this list that you’ve never seen, then I would suggest that you check them out post-haste. The following is a review of Project Greenlight’s ‘The Leisure Class’, an HBO film by Jason Mann.

Project Greenlight is an HBO documentary show about the process of filmmaking, in which its producers grant a huge opportunity to a writer or director. Jason Mann won the 2015 season of Project Greenlight as a director, and he even got to film his own script with a budget of $3 million. By watching the documentary show we were led to believe that every thing was wrong from the get-go. While it does seem like the show was presented more as a reality program than a documentary show, the final product is as problematic as the production processes presented in Project Greenlight. For the uninitiated: This is a new weekly feature on the blog wherein I, I’m Jeffrey Rex, discuss all things DC. This is a test-run, however. Meaning that if this goes well, it’ll be a permanent fixture on I’m Jeffrey Rex in 2015, like Marvelous Monday is right now.

A couple of days ago I decided to jot down my thoughts on the casting of the new Joker, as well as talk about which actors I really wanted for the role. I’d like to preface this discussion by stating that Jared Leto was one of the actors I’d like for the role, but I never thought he’d do it, seeing as he loves touring with his band.
