REVIEW: Weiner (2016 – Documentary)

The following is a quick review of Weiner – Directed by Josh Kriegman & Elyse Steinberg.

Anthony Weiner’s career has been really strange, so far. Some ups, but many downs. In Kriegman and Steinberg’s fly-on-the-wall documentary Weiner, we follow Anthony Weiner during his disastrous 2013 mayoral campaign.

At that time, his relationship with Huma Abedin – an aide to Hillary Clinton – was already on the rocks, so to speak, after Weiner tweeted an inappropriate picture, which ended up forcing him to resign as a member of Congress. What’s absolutely fantastic about this documentary, however, is how the 2013 campaign suddenly became a story about another damaging sexting scandal. REVIEW: Barry (2016)

The following is a quick review of Barry – Directed by Vikram Gandhi.

Some part of me thinks that it is too early for us to see a Barack Obama biopic – seeing as he is still the sitting President for another month – but, at the time of writing, we already have two films. Thankfully, I’m happy to report that this film – Vikram Gandhi’s Barry – definitely isn’t a waste of time. In fact, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed watching it. The following is a quick review of Swiss Army Man – Directed by Dan Kwan & Daniel Scheinert.

Swiss Army Man follows Hank (played by Paul Dano), a man marooned on a small island, who has lost the will to live. At the start of the film, we find him as he is about to hang himself. But, out of the blue, he sees that a corpse has washed up on the beach. As he tries to resuscitate the body, he notices that the corpse is farting. Soon, he uses the farting corpse (played by Daniel Radcliffe) as a jet ski.

The following is a review of Ghostbusters (2016) – Directed by Paul Feig.

A few months ago, I went back and rewatched the first two original Ghostbusters films and reviewed them both. I still loved the original film, but I was taken aback by how much I didn’t have fun rewatching the sequel. Now, I did all of this to prepare for the remake that came out this year. Unfortunately, I missed it when it was in theaters. Now, however, I’ve had the chance to see it on Blu-Ray and here’s my knee-jerk reaction: it’s not as bad as some have made it out to be.

The following is a quick review of Everybody Wants Some!!! – Directed by Richard Linklater.

Back in 2014, director Richard Linklater won numerous awards for Boyhood. Now, I know that not everyone enjoys that film for what it is, but I happen to think of it as a true masterpiece. One of the more important films in the 2010s so far. Naturally, I was interested in seeing what his next move as a filmmaker would be, and I’ve got to say that I’m not impressed with Everybody Wants Some!!! REVIEW: Hell or High Water (2016)

The following is a review of Hell or High Water – directed by David Mackenzie.

Former actor Taylor Sheridan – a WGA Award-nominated screenwriter – is beginning to make quite a name for himself. 2015’s Sicario, which Sheridan also wrote, was easily one of the best films of that year, and now, with Hell or High Water, he may have outdone himself. At the very least, I believe director David Mackenzie has made one of the best neowestern films that I’ve ever seen out of Sheridan’s original script.
