I’ve got some news to share with you today. If you’ve read my posts on gaming, you should have realized that I used to love Nintendo. Of course, PlayStation would take its charm away for me, after having chosen Crash over Mario. I’ve missed Mario though, and therefore I decided recently to invest in a Nintendo Wii U, a console with a lot of problems when it comes to sales – but still one I really like. The GamePad isn’t that bad either, I really enjoy it as a replacement screen, not sure what to think about it as a gaming screen solely though.
I am going to test games like, the ones from the bundle above, Mega Man (through the ‘Virtual Console Classics’), ZombiU, Super Mario 3D World, and at some point possibly Donkey Kong’s new game.
So, here’s the thing. I’m a man that loves superheroes and superhero movies, I love playing games – science fiction or superhero games in particular. Obviously, I was a comic book fan… Once.
Man, I really wanted Carnage in the Raimi-movies… Can we get him in the Garfield ones?
I think the first comic book I read was an Amazing Spider-Man comic book, and quickly I began loving that character as a kid. Mary Jane, Peter Parker, Carnage, Venom – the whole nine yards. See, I picked them up whenever I saw a new comic in the stores – but I was not really out in stores that often when I was a kid, really. That meant that I had no real consistent read through, that persisted for a long time – and would eventually lead to me leaving the comic book world.
Gambit! His accent was not as thick on the Danish version.
What replaced comic books for me? Simple, I got into superhero animated tv-shows. Now, this time around I got to get a real story from start to finish, thankfully. The early 90s cartoons of the X-Men, Batman, and, especially, the Spider-Man animated TV show formed me as a comic/superhero fan, a lifelong one at that – later I would watch some episodes of an Iron Man cartoon and a Justice League cartoon, both I remember enjoying. This was how I would spend my weekends, watching shows like these w/ my favorite characters of both Marvel and DC.
Introduced to me by my father.
Meanwhile, movies became more and more important for me in my youth. My father is a movie buff, and as a result, so did I become. On a sidenote he is focused on horror and action only, whereas I would say I value the more meaningful films much more. Well, the Donner Superman movies were introduced to me in the late 90s, around the time that I got into the cartoons. Now, I had not seen anything from Superman before, but I was aware of him. Basically, though, these movies formed my early opinion on him… I liked him. I would eventually lose interest in him as a character, but not before having read comics about him! I vividly remember my father taking me to this comic collector in Copenhagen, and while my dad would talk with the owner (who, meanwhile, was drinking Carlsberg Beer) I would be reading Superman, Batman and Robin, and Spider-Man comic books – when it was time to leave, my dad told me to pick out 3 or 4 comic books, and he would buy them for me. Great memories for young Jeffrey Rex.
And then there’s Thor…
Movies really came to the front when Marvel entered. The cinematic universe as well as the stand alone X-Men and Spider-Man movies would rebring my childhood heroes into my life, this was when I got pulled away from comics. The movies were more than good enough, they would pretty much leave me satisfied. When the Avengers introduced the idea of bringing Ant-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy into their Cinematic Universe I was forced to retrace my steps as a comic fan – but I never really got around to truly reading comics again – until I heard about Rocket Racoon from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Who would’ve thought a talking Racoon would bring me back?
The Guardians of the Galaxy was a nice surprise for me – never had I heard of them – yet they were instantly pushed to the top of my reading list. Mid-2013 I took the jump back into comic books. The Guardians of the Galaxy were given a new set of comic books, and were reintroduced with Iron Man – this was it for me, I needed to read this. I instantly opened an account at Comixology and bought it. The first piece of comic book material for me since The Walking Dead. I’ve yet to read through all the available comic books for this team, but it has brought me back to my childhood – and I am already contemplating what to get next – what to read. Obviously, The New 52 is tempting, and I have wondered if I should read possibly Green Lantern, Nightwing or Deathstroke. Still, Marvel is interesting, and I am wondering if I should go with the All-New X-Men comics.
So, what do you say? Have any suggestions for me as I return to comic books? Anything I must read?

– I’m Jeffrey Rex
I have been thinking about some possible blogposts for the next couple of weeks and going forward. As of right now, I would like to blog about my Chicago Bears in length. I am also seriously considering blogging about my #365Films New Year’s Resolution, perhaps posting a sample review each month of the movies seen.
I also need to update my section on important projects I have done. This past year I worked on some Shakespeare, American Imperialism etc. at the University of Copenhagen. I have been informed that I will be reading both American and English Literature next semester, I am very much looking forward to that.
Welcome to 2014 – MMXIV in Roman numerals – a year where things will change and I will probably only be posting few updates, sadly.
“I’m going through changes”:
31st of December 2013 marked the first time in a long time that I did not post a New Year’s Speech.
Moving on I expect little or no mentioning of the Tour de France. I simply feel like it would be stupid for me to dedicate a lot of time on the blog to that subject, seeing as it is only my Fifth favorite sport.
Expect a prediction for the 2014/2015 NFL season to feature this year, I love the NFL, and hopefully I’ll be better than I was at predicting this year. I mean… I predicted that the Ravens would go to the Super Bowl in the 2012/2013 season…
Expect more posts simply about my Chicago Bears.
My New Years Resolution for 2014 is to watch 365 movies in 365 days, expect posts about the movies I’ve seen this year.
My Game of the Year for 2013 was The Last of Us, best game I have ever played.
So that was that. My second semester at the University of Copenhagen begins this february, if you were wondering.
The last time I wrote to you, The Tour de France 100 was having its most exciting period – so why did I leave you – where have I been? I return to explain it all.
I stopped blogging about Le Tour de France, when doping once again became a topic in the cycling world – not because they caught anyone – but because suspicion became fact for some, when in fact they had no evidence to prove their theories. Chris Froome won this year’s Tour, but during his reign on top, every news outlet and every fan of an opposing team tried to throw dirt on him – allegation after allegation, nothing stuck by him. His victory will go down in history – but the allegations hurt a lifelong cycling fan. That is why I left. Another important note is that Jakob Fuglsang, from Denmark, did everything we dreamed of in Denmark. We are all very proud of him.
But where have I been since then? I could have written a movie-review, but I didn’t. I could have written about sports, but I didn’t. Why? Well, the answer is simple. I’ve done four things in my hiatus: write, rank, theorize and been accepted by a College/University in Denmark. First things first, I’ve started writing a fictional political drama, set in America, about a former congressman being a star-politician’s right hand man. That’s going well, though I’m not finished just yet. I’ve also begun ranking the Presidents in America – by working from Obama and down, I’m now at FDR. The NFL is almost back, and I have theorized since having created mock drafts, and such, I’ve now got my thoughts on this season collected in writing. It will probably demand a blog post.
Finally, and thankfully, I’ve been accepted to the University of Copenhagen. There I will study English at the highest level, with English-speaking Professors and Teachers teaching me about all things English. I’m happy.
My life is about to begin yet again. And I’m back.
Today I’d like to talk to you about Kickstarter, some of you may already know what it is, which is good, but some of you just might be wondering what everyones talking about. Yesterday a month long project by actor Zach Braff, from the TV Show Scrubs, succeeded in reaching a goal of $2 million – not only that, but he actually earned roughly $3 million. Now what is this project? And how did he do it? Zach Braff once made a movie called ‘Garden State’, and he’s been wanting to create a new movie – that’s where we come in. Us, as fans, were asked to contribute (to back) to his project – his movie. He didn’t want to be tied down by massive Hollywood companies, he wanted to be able to have first say – Director’s Cut, and all that. He wants to make the movie ‘Wish I Was Here’, and he’s going to make that movie – supposedly with Jim Parsons & Anna Kendrick in the cast.
I’m talking to you about this because I backed his project, I contributed – I like this way of thinking, this way of creating art. Now, this is not for everyone, but I do believe Kickstarter is a wonderful page, and Braff’s doing something very smart. Not only for his movie, but also for his fans like me. To be contributing to a movie by an actor you like, doesn’t that sound great? It does in my ears at least, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing how ‘Wish I Was Here’ ends up.
This is my first WordPress blog ever. Previously I’ve mainly focused on the blogging site “blogger”, but I really like the look of this blogging site. On this blog you’ll read about my life, but mostly about my interests.
My interests include movies (of any genre), sports (like Football & Soccer, and sometimes Basketball & Hockey) – and, rarely, politics.
