I.J.R. Awards 2015 – Current Frontrunners

For the uninitiated: In 2013 I launched a yearly ‘award’ post for the blog called I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards, this post names the current frontrunners (up to two titles for each award).

In a month we’ll be halfway through the year, therefore I’ve decided to look back and note my current frontrunners for each award, and reveal if there are any changes for this year’s I’m Jeffrey Rex Awards.

I have no new awards lined up as of right now, thought that might change. I’ll let you know if it does. The thing is though, I’ve got a couple of noteworthy discontinued awards this time around.

First of all I am discontinuing the disappointment award due to the fact that I don’t want angry or pessimistic awards anymore – though if you demanded it of me, I’d have a frontrunner.

I am also discontinuing two Gaming Awards. As I try to balance the most important parts of my life, I am beginning to stop playing a lot of different games. This means that, at least for this year, I am discontinuing the awards for best PC and best Nintendo game.

Now, the whole point of the post was to show you the current frontrunners for each award. As always things may change by the end of the year, but these are my current frontrunners:

  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) & Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPERHERO FILM: Jeremy Renner (Avengers: Age of Ultron) & James Spader (Avengers & Age of Ultron).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) & Raffey Cassidy (Tomorrowland).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPERHERO FILM: Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron) & Elizabeth Olsen (Avengers: Age of Ultron).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE IN DIRECTING A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: George Miller (Mad Max: Fury Road) & Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE IN WRITING A CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE: Jane Goldman/Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman: The Secret Service) & George Miller/Brendan McCarthy/Nick Lathouris (Mad Max: Fury Road).
  • MOVIE OF THE YEAR: Mad Max: Fury Road & Avengers: Age of Ultron.
  • SUPERHERO FILM OF THE YEAR: Avengers: Age of Ultron.

  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SHOW: Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) & Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil).
  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SHOW: Robin Wright (House of Cards) & Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul).
  • TELEVISION SHOW OF THE YEAR: Better Call Saul (HBO) & Daredevil (Netflix).

  • BEST PERFORMANCE BY A VOICE ACTOR IN A GAMING EXPERIENCE: Martha Mackintosh (Game of Thrones) & Christopher Nelson (Game of Thrones).

  • CHELSEA FC PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Eden Hazard & John Terry.
  • FC COPENHAGEN PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Nicolai Jørgensen & Thomas Delaney.
  • OVERALL PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR: Mad Max: Fury Road & Bloodborne.
  • SONG OF THE YEAR: “See You Again” – Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth & “Nothing Without Love” by Nate Ruess.
  • SUPERHERO OF THE YEAR: Hawkeye & Vision.
  • SUPERHEROINE OF THE YEAR: Scarlet Witch & Harley Quinn.

Which films, games, songs etc. are your favorites for 2015 so far?

UPDATE: I am discontinuing all console/pc specific game awards, and sticking by only a ‘Game of The Year’, but I plan to add an ‘award’ for Television Episode of the Year.
