Marvelous Monday #9 – Who Should Play Star-Lord’s Dad?

I'm Jeffrey Rex' Marvelous Monday 9
For the uninitiated: This is a weekly feature on the blog wherein I, I’m Jeffrey Rex, discuss all things Marvel.

Guardians of the Galaxy was probably the most popular 2014 film of ’em all, and in 2017 we’ll see its direct sequel. One of the most interesting aspects of that film is finding out just who Peter Quill’s father is. Now, we pretty much know it won’t be the comic book father – it won’t be J’Son of Spartax. That does annoy me somewhat, but I’m sure it’ll be great.

Now, in this post I won’t theorize on whether it’ll be Adam Warlock, Vance Astro or Starhawk (though my money’s on him). Instead I’ll go over some actors that could or should play the father of Chris Pratt’s Quill.

StarLords Dad
My first candidate is the sci-fi familiar David Duchovny of X-Files and Californication fame. Duchovny has a lot of charisma, and has shown very good comedic timing and talent. I think he’d be able to bring a different audience to theatres, and he should be able to keep up with Chris Pratt. I don’t necessarily think he has had a big part outside of Fox Mulder, and this would be huge for him in winning over a new generation.

Some might argue, however, that Duchovny doesn’t necessarily look like Pratt – these last two actors do, I think. Next up, John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard and Smallville fame. This guy definitely resonates with comic book fans, though one wonders if he is indeed a big enough name for Marvel – though hopefully that doesn’t matter to them anymore.

Finally, I’d like to suggest my top candidate for the job – Sean Bean. This is probably the most well-known actor of the ones mentioned. What I really like about this actor is that he’s been known to play heroes, antiheroes, and villains. He’s incredibly versatile, and he’d need to be if he was to be a bad guy, which J’Son was at times in the comics.

But what do you think? Do you like the actors I’ve mentioned, or do you have someone you desperately want for the part? Sound off in the comments. Stay Marvelous.
