The Netflix documentary ‘Take Care of Maya’ was directed by Henry Roosevelt.

It goes without saying that when you are in need of medical attention, you shouldn’t have to be afraid to take yourself — or your loved ones — to the hospital. That said, this documentary is an excellent example of how broken some healthcare systems (and Florida’s child welfare system) can be. This is the kind of documentary that is so powerful and infuriating that it makes you want to write lengthy rants online, so as to complain about how utterly despicable some of the things the system apparently did to the family at the heart of this heart-rending documentary were.

REVIEW: Rebirth (2016)

The following is a quick review of Rebirth. Available on Netflix right now.

Rebirth is a new film distributed by Netflix. The film follows Kyle (played by Fran Kranz), a social media-manager for a bank, who one day, out of the blue, is contacted by an old friend (played by Adam Goldberg). This old friend introduces him to ‘rebirth,’ a life-changing experience that he wants Kyle to go through. Ultimately, Kyle decides to attend the weekend event, but he soon finds out that ‘rebirth’ isn’t as safe as he thought it would be.  Continue reading “REVIEW: Rebirth (2016)”

REVIEW: 50/50 (2011)

The following is a review of 50/50, a Jonathan Levine film.

When I first encountered 50/50 I had heard very little about it. I knew the premise, I was very familiar with the stellar cast, but I could have never expected how much I would love this film. It is one of the most perfect ‘dramedies’ (comedy-drama) out there. It is well-directed, well-acted, and unforgettable. 50/50 is a dramedy masterpiece.  Continue reading “REVIEW: 50/50 (2011)”
