REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Kisses a Boy!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the fifth episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

Troll the respawn, Jeremy! – the fifth episode was instantly quotable, and featured some great hidden gems of comedy. In what was a surprisingly strong episode for all the main characters, drama and plot-movement were the key ingredients to a fun 23 minutes.

REVIEW: Better Call Saul – “Five-O”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Better Call Saul - Five-O
The following is a review of the sixth episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, which premiered in Europe on Netflix this morning. Expect spoilers from the episode, as well as minor spoilers from Breaking Bad.

Way back in late May 2009, we were first introduced to the character Mike Ehrmantraut – little did we know that today he’d be a fan-favorite character. Way back in 2009 he was somewhat mysterious, and he was so for most of his time on Breaking Bad. His dream of getting his granddaughter money was never truly fulfilled, due to the DEA, Walt, and just terrible luck in the final seasons.

When this show was announced, and he was announced in it, it excited me. We had heard stories about Mike, but Jonathan Banks’ character had been somewhat of a closed-book on the show – only ever showing sincere, heartfelt emotions around Jesse and his granddaughter. Finding out that this episode was about Mike left me intrigued. How did it turn out? Well, let’s take a look. Continue reading “REVIEW: Better Call Saul – “Five-O””

REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Goes to the Doctor!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the fourth episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

Don’t cover up your problems. One of the biggest responsibilities of a sitcom is to be a stern moral guide, every single sitcom has those moments wherein they teach you about life. In the fourth episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt we’re taught how to deal with our problems, how we shouldn’t run from them – but fight through them.

The episode was really entertaining, and its top three jokes were the selfie-training, the Law Squiggle Order, and how Kimmy called the present the future. Continue reading “REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Goes to the Doctor!””

REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Goes on a Date!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the third episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

It’s been a mixed road so far for the new Netflix comedy. After a less-than-stellar second outing, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt still needs to find its footing.

This was a better episode than the last two, as it managed to make good use of every side of Kimmy – as well as have an entertaining B-plot. If you’ve read my reviews, you should know that I am very critical of the Titus character, but he really does a good job in this episode, as he teams up with Lillian – the landlord. REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Gets a Job!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the second episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

Heads up, binge-watchers – Netflix has released a new comedy series! After a good opening episode we’ll have to see if the Netflix Original Series can live up to its potential. As Kimmy is trying to resecure her job at the Voorheess, Titus is trying to get a refund on his Iron Man-lookalike suit.

Right off the bat, I should probably make it clear that I did not care as much for this episode as I did the opening one. With that having been said, I’ve seen a lot worse – and a supporting character ends up saving the episode. Continue reading “REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Gets a Job!””

REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Goes Outside!”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - Unbreakable Kimmy SchmidtThe following is a review of the first episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Expect some spoilers in the review.

Now that Netflix is going all-in on original programming, they’ve planned out 2015 as their biggest year yet – having already released the third season of House of Cards, they, today (6th of March 2015), premiered the very first season of a Tina Fey comedy. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a Netflix Original Series.

So, you probably saw the trailer – but if not, let’s quickly open with the premise. Kimmy Schmidt was a member of an Apocalypse-Cult, and she is freed from an underground bunker in Durnsville, Indiana along with the rest of her female members. Then, the hilarity truly begins – opening with a little homage to the Schmoyoho-generation of autotuners. Oh and good news trailer-haters, I believe the trailer only contains scenes from the first episode. Continue reading “REVIEW: Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt – “Kimmy Goes Outside!””

REVIEW: Better Call Saul – Alpine Shepherd Boy

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Better Call Saul - Alpine Shepherd Boy
The following is a review of the fifth episode of AMC’s Better Call Saul, which premiered in Europe on Netflix this morning.

Don’t you just feel bad for Chuck? I mean that opening… While his neighbor didn’t exactly sell him the paper, it sucked that she actually called the cops on someone leaving five dollars as payment. Considering the lengths he went to to get the paper, it sucks that he had to go through that rough ordeal with the cops. His brother’s doing somewhat better though, as is to be expected from last week’s episode.

I want to secede from the United States – Well, okay then. Jimmy sure is getting more clients, and our guy’s not exactly the kind of lawyer that says no to anything upfront, not then and there. But that retaining fee? That’s sure to make anyone cut and run. As for the suggestive talking toilet? Yeah. Don’t go there Jimmy. The drafting of the will, however, yeah that’s much better – though not exactly my speed, watch the episode and you’ll understand what I mean. REVIEW: House of Cards – “Chapter 39”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - House of Cards 39The following is a review of the thirteenth and final episode of season three. Expect spoilers in the plot description.

One final hour until the end of the season. What is Claire saying? Will Frank take Iowa? Come and find out! At the end of the post, I’ll also gather some thoughts about the entire season, though that won’t affect the episode grade. Let’s get to the plot description:

The episode opens with Rachel Posner – there she finally is. She was indeed alive, like Orsay had told Doug a few episodes ago. She has multiple jobs – helping out at a bar, at a grocery store. Meanwhile, Doug is flying to Caracas. What exactly does this mean for the final hour in season three? Continue reading “REVIEW: House of Cards – “Chapter 39””

REVIEW: House of Cards – “Chapter 38”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - House of Cards 38The following is a review of the twelfth episode of season three. Expect spoilers in the plot description.

After Chapter 37 we must ask if Stamper’s finally ready to live his life, or if the Rachel-news will pull him back in. Or is Francis the one pulling him back in? Also, what is on Claire’s mind? Come and find out! Let’s get to the plot description:

The episode opens with the news – people favor Dunbar, but fear that her inexperience will lead to the Republicans taking 2016. On the Air Force One they decide to make good use of Claire, seeing as she’s more popular than her husband. They’ve yet to replace Remy Danton, though Seth Grayson wants the job. Dunbar is visiting her old friend from the Supreme Court, Robert. He says it’s time for him to step down, but he wants her to take the job – even though she’s the frontrunner for 2016. REVIEW: House of Cards – “Chapter 37”

I'm Jeffrey Rex Episode Review - Netflix - House of Cards 37The following is a review of the eleventh episode of season three. Expect spoilers in the plot description.

We’re almost by the end of the season, that means that we need to get through the televised debates. Finally, they’re here. Let’s get to the plot description:

The Underwoods are preparing for the final part of their campaign. The First Lady is wooing voters as she should, and Francis is preparing for the debates as he should. Now, what’s interesting is what happens at Stamper’s apartment. Now that Orsay’s out, he’s telling Doug that Rachel is indeed alive – he was just feeding him false information so that he would get him his passport. He’ll tell him where she is if, and only if, he helps Orsay’s friend. Orsay is toying with an addicted man – and this won’t end well.
